What's Your Empty/full Signal?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed since moving to pureed foods that my empty signal is hiccups and my full signal is a slightly runny nose.... What's yours?? Please tell me it changes after a while.. I hate hiccuping!!!!

I can't help with the empty signal, because I eat on a time schedule.

But when I am full I burp. I was never a burper before surgery, so this is kinda gross to me but I know once I burp that is it, not another bite.

I thought the burping would go away eventually, but alas it looks to be here to stay as I am over a year out and we are still together. My husband even comments when we are eating together, and I burp. "Yup, she's full." Then he procedes to take my remaining food, lol. I told him it is a good thing he doesn't gain weight.

I happy to see you are doing well and adjusting. Keep rocking it Lady!!!

Im almost 2 yrs post op and I still hiccup :) I think it's mostly when I'm eating too fast and need to remind myself to slow down... When I'm full my stomach lets me know it) it's a type of discomforting feeling that can't be confused with anything else...

Oh girl, when I'm hungry - I can get a real nasty temper... LOL!!! I'm usually very easy going naturally but I can get a lil grouchy when I haven't eaten in awhile. I rarely feel physically hungry so it's hard to tell otherwise, and like Anew, I usually eat on a time schedule.

When I'm full, I'll give a little burp (or big one how ever you see it...) and if I go a little too far I will get the hiccups. I have never thrown up my food tho. However food will sometimes come back up with my hiccups so I can tell then I've had too much. I really try to stop before I get to that point, but doesn't always happen.

I am a month and 4 days post op and I have noticed that when I’m full that I have a small burp…the trick is to stop as soon as I burp one bite more and I could feel very uncomfortable. This is a learning process and because everyone is different you have to pay attention. I was using that very full feeling as my gage but I feel much better stopping after the burp, I don’t feel over full, just right.

Hiccups when I near full or eat too quickly. Burp when I reach the top. One more bite and I'm over the edge.

Learning to hear my stomach cues has been one of my two biggest struggles since the sleeve a month ago.

I too find it really hard to eat slowly. After a life time of getting as much food in as possible. However I soon know about it if I do eat/drink too quickly and get a real ache in the middle of my back about the same place as my bra strap! I too get the hiccups when Ive had enough.

When I go four hours without Protein, I get an empty feeling - kind of a hollowing out sensation from my stomach. Different than pre surgery hunger. If I ignore it and continue not to eat, I will get a headache and get kind of shaky.

When I am full - I get this sensation that there is no more room - but it isn't packed tightly. If I go one bite beyond that, I get uncomfortable is my stomach and chest. . No runny nose, sneezing, or hiccups. I have to pay attention - but it does tell me.

I burp. I can eat past the burp, but I'm in pain if I do that. So I don't. Lol

I feel a tightness behind my breastbone. I've not noticed any hiccups or burps thus far.

I'm 1 month out from surgery and it's hard to tell when I'm full. I eat 3 heaping tablespoons of cottage cheese and feel sick and hurt some, eat 2 and feel just a little uncomfortable. I think I will learn in time, what I do now is eat slower and don't eat much at a time. When I'm emty, I feel nausea like drinking to much coffee? I eat a yogurt and feel fine. But last nite I ate a small piece of pork and have had pains in my stomach ever since. I will stay away from pork for awhile thats for sure.

Don't have an empty signal... but when my sleeve has had enough I hiccup. That's when I know I'm done. My family has picked up on this too and when I get the hiccups they say "ok mom, stop eating". It's really funny.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
