I'm Never Ever Ever Eating Again!

How long were you guys on pureeds/mushies? My mushy stage doesn't allow eggs. Just a few things like cottage cheese and any Soup that can be blended. And this stage is for 4 freakin weeks! Thing I'll have to stick to liquids another 4 weeks!

2 weeks liquid pre-op. 2 Weeks liquid post-op. 2 weeks puree. 2 weeks soft.

Wow...my doctor only gave me one week of each of these. I am 6 weeks out and feel like I should have waited on certain items. The only things that feel good now are soft green veggies, like green Beans, collard greens, spinach, and soft broccoli. The only Protein I can tolerate are soft cooked fish! I've been surving on tuna, sardines and salmon! I had a yogurt slush a few days ago from the ice cream place and that felt really good. I could only drink a little though.

Just hang in there Riss!! We can go through this together. Everyone on the board has so much good advice.

Thanks!! I was on liquids for a week post op. I'm on mushy for the next 3-4 weeks. I also tried Greek yogurt. GROOOOSSSS!! My sleeve didn't get a chance to turn it away. I hated it. I have been doing w/ with chopped crab and lo fat mayo and oatmeal. I may try chicken tonight. Right now- I'm trying to figure out my "full" indicator. I keep overeating.

I ate egg drop Soup quite a bit during the mushy stage. It was easy to eat, full of Protein, low in fat , carbs, and calories, and cheap too! I still turn to it as a quick lunch or dinner choice. I also really like the ricotta cheese bake - ricotta cheese, a little marinara sauce, topped with mozzarella and either baked for a few minutes or warmed in the microwave. Yummmm! Regular scrambled eggs were the only thing that ever made me sick and I still can't bring myself to try them again. Everyone is different so you just have to experiment until you find what agrees with you.

My NUT does not recommend that you consume fruits until the end of your weight loss efforts-strictly Proteins until month 4, then Protein first with a non starchy veggie if you still have room. Remember- PROTEIN FIRST always! If you follow that rule you usually don't have room for the stuff you shouldn't be eating.

I had a hard time learing to SLOW DOWN, this is really important! And remember to chew, chew, chew.

I also hated greek yogurt! So many people have sung it's praises on these boards, but the taste was bitter to me. Glad to hear I'm not the only one!! :)

As for your full feeling, in the beginning, make sure you are not eating too fast. I would take a bite, put my fork down and either talk to the others at the table or if I was dining alone, read a few sentences in a book before taking another bite. This gives the food time to make it down to Sleevie before taking another bite. I found that when I'm full, I hiccup. I've also found that if I take one bite more....it's not going to stay down. Luckily I've been at home the couple times this has happened.

I use cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (Fage), and poached eggs with about 1/2 oz. of shredded cheese on top. I like refried Beans, but I can't eat the whole can before I think it's too old to finish. pureed meats, Light Babybel and Laughing Cow Light cheeses. Last night, at my mother-in-law's, I had 1/2 c. (total) of mashed potato, roast beef shreds, and a bit of gravy, chewed to applesauce consistency. Most of my Protein still comes from Isopure Dutch chocolate made with unsweetened almond milk.

Not really sure why?! But I got the grand idea to put a little lemon juice on my crab.. Yeah- that's going on the never ever list too!

If the reaction you are talking about is feeling like the food is lodged in your esophagus, I totally relate. I found that today. I had mushy veggies in minestrone Soup and thought it was going to lodge there forever. So what I did was put my jacket and shoes on and walked outside for about half an hour. That helped me digest it better. Terrible feeling though.

The mayo didn't sit well with me until recently and I am almost four months post-surgery. Also, eggs, no matter how they are cooked, continue to be waaaay too heavy for me. The first couple weeks of mushies, I absolutely live on KFC mashed potatoes.

The first mushy thing I ate was a scrambled egg and only a couple bites of it. I have a love/hate relationship with eggs, sometimes they are great and others make me feel like I am going to be sick just looking at them. I hate greek yogurt and cottage cheese so those were a no go for me.

Before surgery I made a pot of my homemade beef stew and froze very small portions of it. I put it through a blender and ate that heated up. Lots of flavor, something I had been craving. Lots of creamed Soups, cream of potato, mushroom, chicken were my favorites. Lots of mashed potatoes and since they were just small portions I made the small Betty Crocker packets instead of making them from scratch each time. Those have different flavors so it wasn't the same old thing every day. I also did the blended tuna w/mayo or chicken w/mayo.

It took me awhile to really slow down and get used to the insanely small amount I was eating.

Omg!! I want some mashed potatoes sooooooooo bad. But they are the devil. I lived off of anything with lots of cheese or potatoes and that's the reason I was 260lbs. :/ I am in recovery from my cheese addiction, so I better no tempt myself.

LOL!! That "never ever" list is growing girl! Ice cream is on my never ever list though. It goes down so easy and smooth and then POW!! My sleeve starts doing kick boxing and Zumba inside me. Yep..."nevah evah" for that drama.

Hey y'all. I was released to get soft mushy foods yesterday. I was SO excited. You would have thought my little can of tuna and lo fat mayo was a Iron Chef meal. I ate 4/5 fork full w/ a baby fork. At first I was OK- but then I had the worlds worst reaction. No thanks!! I'll drink broth for life! J/k

What was your first soft/mushy food? Did you have a similar experience?

Looks like you have had a lot of replies. They are right--sounds like you started out on something pretty rich to eat chicken was one of the first thing when it came to eating meat that I tried and it worked great for me. I know a lot of people who can no longer tolerate Mayo, you may be one of those. This is the process of relearning how and what to eat--don't give up that easy.

Make some simple things to eat. Maybe start out with some Soups. Chew and chew and chew and chew--about 30 times per each bite--until the food feels like liquid in your mouth. Honestly you just get tired of chewing and it takes forever to eat things and than you just push the food away and are full in a short time.

NO one ever said it was going to be easy, but it is possible to eat almost all foods. Keep trying,, you just got off to a bad start.

Good for you! You're going to do well with your sleeve, recognizing your trigger foods and avoiding them is a good signal. :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
