Is Leftover Chicken Breast A Problem To Eat Post Surgery?

Recommended Posts

My daughter had the RNY bypass and has problems eating leftover chicken breast claiming it is too dry to swallow. I'm planning on having VS bypass surgery and am wondering if this problem has occured with anyone here.

I find that if I microwave leftover grilled chicken to warm it up, it can be pretty dry and a little tougher to eat. What I sometimes do (if I'm at home) is spray a little Pam in a small saute pan, slice the chicken thin and warm it up that way. It is less dried-out that way. If you have to microwave it you could use a little chicken broth in your container to keep it a little more moist.

For me it is. I like to pour a little chicken brother over the leftovers before they go in the fridge, and then pour it out before I take it out and reheat it. Keeps the meat moist.

The key to eating meat after Wls is moisture, to paraphrase Egg Face. I keep ranch dressing, Visalia onion sauce and some bean dip in my fridge for just such occasions as reheating food. A little dab makes any meat easier to chew and swallow.

If you have a good, organic "happy" chicken, you should try the dark meat more often if you can stomach dark meat. It has good Omega 3 fatty acids that your body and brain needs. And it's not dry like the breast. Dark meat is not the criminal it's made out to be. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
