keybold64 43 Posted January 3, 2012 Oh, yes! I know just what you mean - I'm exactly one week post-op so I'm still on full liquids, but I get so full so fast now that my head starts playing mind games (ie. maybe you would lose more/faster if you didn't eat/drink so much, etc.) I have to fight to ignore those thoughts because we are taking in so little as it is! It's so freaky to be seeing the weight drop when I don't even feel like I'm dieting because I'm never hungry
his2my2our4 120 Posted January 3, 2012 You are not alone!! I was the exact same way!! I was so scared that I was going to stretch my new sleeve or worse yet, cause a leak somehow. I don't have any wise words of wisdom, all I know is that if you trust the process and in your doctors instructions, you should be just fine! :-)
wishes 125 Posted January 3, 2012 I still have apprehension about eating. I try to set timers for myself and mini-goals throughout the day to hit the marks for fluids and Protein I need to get. You can do this. I know it's hard, but you can!
MegInNOLA 531 Posted January 3, 2012 It really does get better. I was petrified that I would somehow stop my weight loss by eating "wrong." Actually, if you don't eat, what happens is your energy level gets crummy, you don't feel like exercising or moving around very much, and THAT sabotages your weight loss. I stopped thinking of food as the enemy and started thinking of it as fuel, and that really helped me both make good decisions about what to eat and to feel better about eating in general. I always think "burn, baby, burn" when I eat--just to let the food know it has a purpose, and I'm using it to help myself feel energized. Also, honestly, you're still pretty early out from surgery. Listen to your body and trust that it will let you know what it needs. Some people progress at slower or faster rates than the "norm." It all comes out okay. 1 Aussiegirl reacted to this

Mrs.Prisses 51 Posted January 3, 2012 Yea, a lot of it is mental. We are used to eating and gaining weight. With this sleeve, its like I am always eating or drinking something, thus, will not lose weight. But, if you just "feel" your food work; like after you eat then go for a walk. After that, you will have the feeling of so much energy. When you get your Protein in, its even better. Its like you can feel your food being energy. So now, as odd as it seems, food is your friend. Just make healthy choices, stick to doctors orders no matter what. I have been eating and exercising, which makes me hungry for my next meal. Its the only way to get the food down. Not to mention, for me anyway, eating is still somewhat uncomfortable. I am still learning to eat slow and in very small bits at a time. I still have not eaten until I feel "Full" yet. I use a time limit of 30 min. What ever has gotten down is whats going down. As always, if your body feels wrong, then take a step back in your diet and call the surgeon. We are all different and so are our sleeves! Best wishes to you!
JMarshall 352 Posted January 3, 2012 i can understand the feeling of being scared to eat. i am 2 months out and i am on regular foods again. i went out with my co-workers to a Chinese buffet. i did not eat anything at all because i was so scared of not being able to control myself. Mrs.Prisses is 100 % right. we have to start looking at food as a way to fuel our body's and a way to maximize weight loss . i had a meeting with my nutritionist and she asked me what i was eating.when i told her what my intake was she explained that it is not enough. she said the body is like a car and food is like gas, without enough gas a car will not perform and will stall. Mrs.Prisses 51 Posted January 3, 2012 And we ALL know we don't want anything to do with "STALL"! Keep eating and moving! Then when your all done moving, drink some Protein shake. Then move some more. At night when the cravies come...go yourself to sleep. The best way to avoid cravings is to keep moving so that you can sleep at night like your supposed to. food is all around us and will always be. They took our tummies, not our taste buds. I will never be cured of my desire for Church's chicken, but, I will be strong enough to resist it. I will because I know that its going to go to my body and do absolutely NOTHING good. I am in charge now and I say what goes in me MUST do something good FOR me. That being said...I also have found some yummy substitutes for some old unhealthy favorites.
