Losing Slow At Very Beginning?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 12/6 and haven't lost anything since the first week. I am down 10lbs only.

Hi Nan,

What is your daily menu like? Are you getting enough calories? Protein? Water? Have you spoken to your doc about it at one of your follow-up appointments?

Danal,

I eat about 600 cal with no,carbs other than veggies. I still need to exercise though.

I weigh 300 lbs and should be dropping fast bit I,am not.

My doc and nutritionist think it is because I take a lot of 3 different antipsychotics that are known for weight gain.

I haven't given up though. Besides,,I can't eat much anyway.

I just met with my surgeon yesterday and BEGGED him to tell me a calorie and carb goal. I don't know why they are so resistant to setting concrete goals! He recommended 1100 calories and 40 carbs...but that's impossible. Protein makes you so full you can't get 1100 calories without adding carbs and fat!

I guess we just have to do trial and error. It's scary to up calories and even carbs but a couple days ago when I upped both (to 850 cal and like 60 carb) I lost 2 pounds after a 2.5 week stall!

As for someone posting about gaining weight with exercise...sometimes that happens esp at first. You lose when you stop exercising bc you quickly drop muscle. So stick with the exercise cause it'll bring your sexy back for sure!

Ugh! I don't even keep track of what I eat anymore. I know I should but what a pain in the butt! As of now, I'm up 6 pounds but my clothes are too big! I don't get it! I've decided to get rid of the scale! As long as I'm shrinking, I don't care what that number reads!!

Hang in there. I know medication can wreak havoc on weight loss attempts. I'm on so many meds that I am sure that all the interaction plays a roll in slow weight loss... I need to exercise more too.....

Well when you all figure out the secret please fill me in. I have my appts tomorrow I am at 5 months and 42lbs down and that is naked so I am sure on my drs scale more like 40. I am sure he will look at me like I am crazy. I am in the gym, tracking and irritated. This is the same bs I went through pre surgery trying to figure out the right balance if calories end calories burnt yada yada ya. I didn't expect it to be this damn frustrating. I knew I would have to still work at this and no I would not have lost this much without my sleeve but it is still frustrating

I know exactly how you feel... I was not expecting magic but I did think I would lose steadily. If I was losing 2 lbs a week at a steady pace I would feel ok. I mean, I did NOT expect for it to be quite this slow when only eating 800 calories a day. I was concerned whether this would be successful because I was not having success losing weight at 1200 calories. I spoke to the surgeon about it and he reassured me that this would work because the surgery resets the body's set points. Now I am not so sure. I'm absolutely still glad I had the surgery -- if only to help control my portions so that I won't gain weight in the future. But yeah, I'm disappointed. Of course I'm not giving up --- just venting...

Yeah we really have no choice but to keep plugging along. It is frustrating and it is okay to vent. When I see people saying I am a slow loser and I have lost only 50lbs in 3 months it frustrates me. I would take 1.5 or 2 lb loss. The other thing is my losses are not consistent. I can't even track a so called "stall" no rhyme or reason.

You are so right about the stall thing. When people say they're " in a stall", well, that must mean they were losing steadily then stopped....lol....I've spent almost the entire 8 weeks after surgery " in a stall".....I lose 1 pound, gain 2, lose 1, lose 2, gain 1. I have no way to even track a "stall".... in the last month I've only lost 7 pounds.

I have about 6 MIOs here....I just can't get those down anymore for some reason. Now I'm drinking Water with lemon and splenda.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
