I Almost Regret Having Had This Sleeve Gastrectomy!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to let everyone know that I started to feel better. I increased my liquids and Protein intake and the nausea is almost gone, thank God! I was headed to the ER if I had not started to feel better.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to reply to my post. You are most selfless!

I'm due to return to work tomorrow so I will keep you guys posted on how that goes!

Have a good night everyone!

I am late to the topic for you Lola but, you received great advice. Good to hear you are feeling better. Just please listen to your body and don't be afraid to call your doctor. This is serious and they get paid accordingly.

Take care of you and good luck on this journey.

Hi-

Are you on an acid reducer? I was sent home with omeprazole and was directed to take it daily for 6 months. It saved me! If you aren't on one, you should start.

I had profound exhaution for up to 8 weeks after surgery. I went back to work and could barely hold my head up. it is very depressing, but it will get better. I had a terrible time with eating and drinking for that period of time. I knew I was short on liquids and calories so I started sipping regular gatorade as much as I could.

Worthy to note: If you have nausea with everything you try to consume, you may have a complication. Take your temp as well - a fever would be an indicator too.

I know that I tried every possible drink in the world to get through those weeks. I couldn't do the protien drinks so I started experimenting with milk, gatorade, whatever I could think of. One day something would go down fine and the next day it wouldn't. Just keep trying and keep sipping - you need everything you can get down right now.

I was also cleared for full liquids and mushies a little sooner because of my lack of liquids. Is started drinking liquid yogurt and eating cottage cheese (chewed to nothing) and whipped sweet potatoes with salt.

I tried baby food too. Seriously, I tried everything under the sun just to get a few calories in and lift my energy level. Remember you are in this for the long haul - you can't undo the surgery. Now you have to focus on getting better and staying healthy. At the 9 month mark, I absolutely love my sleeve. My energy didn't come back 100% until 4-5 months out.

Hang in there!

I thought the drinks were repulsive too, but for goodness sakes, sometimes you just have to take your medicine! At least until your stomach is healed and you can get your Protein from real food... If your not throwing up from the drinks, then I say, drink them! They will help you heal and not loose muscle, and get strong and get in part of your Fluid too. Its only a couple of months, then you never have to look at them again. I actually got to like some of them after a while... and they do make it so much easier to get in your protein. At 11 months out I use drinks a couple of times a week to get in a low carb and high protein low calorie meal when I don't have much time, or just need something really on track in the middle of the day. They can be your friend, and when your taste buds get a little back to normal, the right ones are not half bad.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
