Making Eating With The Family More Pleasant - Full Liquid Phase

Recommended Posts

I have a few more weeks of full liquids to go.

It just wasn't that fun to eat with the family. I don't mind that they are eating something different (although baked chicken certainly smells better than bean Soup or oatmeal), but taking so long to eat 2T - 4T of food, and it being cold quickly, and much of it being stuck to the bowl, and the spoon too big for small containers, was just no fun!

So I took some advice and bought an electric mug warmer off Amazon. Some of the negative reviews stated that it didn't keep coffee "hot", it kept it "warm". One person's curse is another person's blessing, I guess. So I keep that at my place at the table.

I also went to a restaurant supply and bought six cute small glass bowls with very sloped sides, and a dozen demitasse spoons.

It feels much more civilized now!

Good afternoon all,hurray.gif

i just went to my local grocery store, they have some baby supplies there. In one pkg there were 6 itsy bitsy teaspoons. I also bought little bowl w/matching covers.

Besides being really helpful - they are the cutest things you ever sawlaugh.png

Amanda that was a great suggestion about the cup warmer. I'm going shopping today.

As far as eating w/the family - my DH feels funny eating in front of me. i tell him it really is ok - but he still feels weird eating what he does in front of my delicious oatmeal.biggrin.png

Kathy,

I looked at some baby food spoons too, that was my original idea on Amazon. Then I thought of demitasse spoons I already own but they are really nice, and were a gift, so I didn't want to ruin those.

I found the basic demitasse spoons at the restaurant supply for like $2 for a dozen!

The mug warmer is great. I wish I could remember where I read about it and go say thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
