Lactose Intolerance And Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I probably won't be much help, but I wish you luck. Have you tried getting Protein from food? I'm not sure where you are on your eating plan, but if you can handle softs it's not a bad idea to start there.

I was in the same predicament and I spent a ton of money on different Protein drinks and bars and every single thing made me very sick. Eventually, I just ate as much greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, and eventually tuna as I could. I also blended Peanut Butter, almond milk, and banana together to make my own Protein Drink that I could handle. I didn't get in the amount of Protein that I was supposed to, but I did the best I could considering how little the sleeve allows you to eat.

By the way, if you like sardines (and I know most people don't) they have a ton of protein and are super small so they don't take up much space. Here's a link that might help.

A couple of things that you can try - one is to take Lactaid before or with any dairy products; it works well for my wife who has been lactose intolerant since her DS surgery several years ago. Another thing to try on the Protein front is to look for Protein Drinks or powders that are 100% whey isolate. The isolate form doesn't have any lactose in it, but is more expensive than non-isolated whey, so most whey protein drinks are a blend of isolate and non-isolated whey to keep their cost down. There are some on the market that are 100% whey isolate, but you may have to go to a specialty store like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe to find them.

I was lactose intolerate before surgery and found Muscle milk and Muscle milk light both are completely lactose free and the light version has 15 grams of Protein. They come in vanilla and chocolate i believe. I can actually tolerate these without any lactose problems

Syntrax Nectars are whey isolate I think and they are wonderful. I add just a small amount of apple juice to enhance the flavor and I love them! Gold Standard makes a great product as well that is whey isolate. I became lactose intolerant after surgery and cannot eat cheese, yogurt or anything with dairy. But these Protein drinks are fine...

Living the dream,

Laura

I never had a problem with milk products before surgery but am very lactose intolerant now. The hospital put me on Isopure after surgery and it is great. It comes ready to drink and in several fruit flavors. It doesnt have any milk and is a clear drink. Here's the link to their website. http://isopureproteindrink.org/ Good luck to you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
