Welp I Am Offically Post-op!

Recommended Posts

Came home from the hospital today, doing fairly well. I was up walking every hour at the hospital, my surgeon came and said the hospital is for sick people, get the heck out of here. The drain is the only thing that really hurts.

Worried about the Water. what was the average when everyone came home from hospital? i have only drank maybe a half bottle of Water today, i am using the little measuring cup and sipping out of that. I ate my Jello ok, and drank some of the Protein shake the doc brought me before i left, going to drink more of it later, it was vanilla and actually good to me. hope all my other dec 28th sleevers are doing well!

Congratulations!

liquids are difficult early on. Your stomach is swollen and restricted. Just keep sipping and walking. Protein, then Water. Water, then Protein. It will get better, I promise you. Don't stress if you don't hit your quotas, just keep trying. Jello was a good friend to me, too.

Welcome to the group!!! For me, what I did once I got home was whatever amount you drink the first day (and for me it was about 1/2 a bottle of water), write it down or mark it on the bottle. Somehow, whatever works for you, but track it and tell yourself tomorrow you have to drink "more" than today. And if it's a visual thing, that seemed to make it easier for me to be able to drink more each day. At first it is hard, but after a couple of days when some of the swelling has started going down and some of your anxiety is gone, it is easier to drink. You probably will still only be taking small sips but you will be able to take more of them closer together throughout the day. I can now take an almost normal size swallow (actually 3-4 at one time).

Good luck and just hang in there. It does get so much better every couple of days!

Me too! I was sleeved on the 28th and was worried about my Water intake. I got in about 8 oz of water some broth and a little Jello today. I hope to get some Protein in tomorrow!

Good luck!!!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
