Hey, Fabulous Fifties,

Anyone having dry skin? I have a dry, itchy rash, which doesn't seem to be related to anything else, but started on my pre-op liquid diet. I'm changing my name to "Prickles."

FF,

I'm getting all my fluids, and I've been drinking the same Protein, Isopure, on and off for a few years. Nothing has changed except fat and calorie intake. And it's just from hip joint to knee. I'm just weird, I guess.

I, too am having dry itchy skin - no rash though. Mine is primarily on my legs fromthe knee down. I get in my Protein and Water, and take flax oil supplements - so I am attributing mine to less fat under the skin (my guess). The parts of me that still have too much fat (around my middle) don't itch.

I got a weird dry skin rashy thing on my chest, just below my collarbone, and in a couple of places on my arms around month 4 or 5. It's gone away now. I thought maybe it's because I shrunk quickly and my skin couldn't keep up. I use a body oil instead of lotion after every few showers. I think the oil helps me skin. It sure soaks in fast!

You didn't mention where your rash is, what you use could vary on the location.

For dry skin, I prefer a thin coat of petroleum jelly on my arms and shins. It cures those scaly looking skin cells for days. It works great on your heals too.

Who knew at 54 white chicks get ashy? LOL

My doc. Told me to use Biotin, for skin, hair and nails. This diet is killing my beautiful nails, which was what I considered my most beautiful area. Doc said Biotin so I just started using it. Maybe it will help you too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
