luv-a-bull 7 Posted December 30, 2011 I have been reading on here that people after surgery can eat like two tablespoons of refined Beans and be full. I guess I am not sure how to tell when I am full. I have tolerated everything I have eaten...no slimes, etc....but I am worried I am eating too much. Tonight I had refried Beans with a little melted cheese....and ate about 1/4 cup over 40 minutes. I am taking small bites and am pausing between bites...but I am worried about stretching my stomach or causing a leak. Does this seem like a lot of food for this soon post op...or am I paranoid as usual lol? Sorry for the rant...just can't stop worrying!
Lisa :) 231 Posted December 30, 2011 I wouldn't be too worried. I am a little more than 7 weeks out and have tolerated everything I've eaten very well and when I started on pureed foods I was able to eat about a 1/4 cup as well. Other than hitting the week 3 stall, I've lost weight very consistently and am down 33 pounds since surgery even though I sometimes feel like I'm eating too much. Sounds like you're doing just fine!!!!
Indymom 132 Posted December 30, 2011 It doesn't sound like too much . . . 1/4 cup is 2 oz and that's what I was allowed to eat at that point post-op. Remember to not stretch out your eating too long, though - you should try to finish eating within 30 minutes. Remember too that mushies/soft foods aren't going to necessarily make you feel full, so it's important to measure what you're eating and stick to that. Your staple line is still healing and sometimes there's numbness that persists that keeps you from feeling the sensation of fullness. I never started feeling "full" until I started actual dense Proteins like chicken, tuna, etc.
Kami 9 Posted December 30, 2011 Sounds like what I experienced. I think there's some people who eat very small amounts, and some people who can eat more. In the early days, it depends on how much swelling you have (and swelling can apparently last a few weeks after surgery). Maybe you just didn't have much swelling, or it went away pretty quickly.
