When Do Steri Strips Come Off After Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 wks post op tomorrow and steri strips haven't come off. Not even budging. Band aids came off day 2. I asked Dr.'s office and they said to leave them alone. But I won't see him for post op until next Wednesday due to holidays. Just thinking that they're really stuck on the longer they stay put. Input from the vets, please. My Dr uses glue under those steri strips.

I was allowed to remove them at 10 days.

My doctor told me I could take them off myself after a week, but I had my surgery through the belly button so I don't know if it is different for you.

Thanks for the replies. I'd be too scared to try to take them off myself cause they seem so stuck on. I guess I'll wait for next Wednesday when I see him. i just worried that the longer they stayed on the more difficult it would be for them to be removed.

I was told to take mine off after a week...they started getting lint under the corners and stuff so in order to keep everything clean I peeled them off at about 9 days even though they seemed pretty stuck on.

I was told they would come off themselves between 10-14 days. I got a little impatient and took one off and realized it was a wee bit too early. One hadn't fully closed yet, but they just said to put a band aid on it and it should be fine. It's ok now. Every doctor is different.

Thanks for asking this... I was just wondering about it too... two have fallen off, and the one in my belly button, and one other one are stuck tight... they said I could take them off after a week or so.

I actually took them off last night, slowly, since they were still pretty stuck but looked nasty to me. They seem to hurt a bit because some of the scabs came off with the strips. My husband says by the looks of them I probably should have removed them earlier. But they're healing, just a bit painful now that the strip isn't there holding everything stuck together.

I had staples until 7 days post-op, then those were removed and Steri-strips were put on. I was told to remove them after a week if they didn't come off themselves. Two of my incisions were slightly infected under the strips, including the largest one. I used hydrogen peroxide on them once a day, and everything is hunky dory.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
