How Long B/f Going Back To Work?

Recommended Posts

Just trying to get a general consensus of how long you needed to recovery. Would 2 weeks be optimal?

My doctor is requiring me to take two weeks off, two weeks light duty. But it takes about six months to fully recover.

For me it was about 10 days, I had to go back to university 5 days after surgery, which was so hard, but I had to. Now I'm 18 days out and I feel fantastic! My clothes fit better, seats are easier to fit in and everyone is noticing, and moving is waay easier! I only turned 20 recently, maybe this is cuz of my age =/ but I feel muchhh better, and my energy is up, so yeah, hope that helped =/

I'm wondering if two weeks is long enough for me. I work at a bank as a teller, and I stand ALL day. So I am hoping that I can go back after two weeks.

Carrie, that's my job, too! My nutritionist recommended four full weeks, actually, because the activity level of the job. (I told HR that I expected three weeks, but maybe four.)

I took my full 4 weeks off. I am tired and my energy level isn't up to par. Especially with the constant sipping that is needed post-op, I couldn't do that at my job. I am ready now. Glad I took the time off and my CA state disability covered.

I am taking 4 weeks off.. I am 2 weeks out today and am feeling pretty good but I want to make sure I am giving 100% to myself for the first month. So far so good ! I think 2 weeks would be fine. I finally started sleeping in bed at about 1 week without pain. You should be fine... Good Luck

I was given 4 weeks by my surgeon, but luckily I was able to use short term disability though my employer, I was in a lot of pain though, but remember, everyone is different...

I had my surgery on Monday and was back to work the following Monday. 7 days. My job is somewhat sedentary, but my co-workers knew what I was doing so any heavylifting was done by them.

I originally took only a week off, but by the Friday before I was supposed to go back I knew I wasn't ready for it- so I ended up taking off the full two weeks recommended by my surgeon. I know everyone is different but I think if I could have had three weeks off it would have been perfect for me. Be prepared to be exhausted no matter when you go back to work. You may not be that way but it's better to go into something thinking it is gonna be that way and be surprised if it isn't. I wish someone had told me this prior to my surgery.

I was sleeved 12-19-11. I am an accountant by trade. I thought 2 weeks might be enough. But yesterday I went to my post-op class and dr appt. By the time I returned home it was 5 1/2 hours. I was so exhausted I took a 2 hour nap. So I am taking another week.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
