Chocolate Cravings, Really?

Recommended Posts

OK, so I need to vent....I am 5 weeks post-op and I've been doing really well, but the past few days I have been craving chocolate like crazy. I have, for the most part, resisted these cravings. (I did suck on a piece of chocolate for a couple minutes, then spit it out) I thought it was due to all the sweets lying around because of Christmas, but low and behold, I get my period this morning!! What in the world!?? I have always had crazy sweet cravings before my period, I never would have imagine I would still get them post-op!! Well, I guess your hormones don't change when you lose weight..... :-( Thanks for the vent sesion....stinkin' periods....

Girl, my chocolate cravings are off the wall during PMS time, which happens to be right now! Skinny Cow makes these amazing milk chocolate dreamy clusters that taste so good, but are really low calorie. If you haven't already, check them out. Right now I am freezing and craving chocolate, so I am sitting here at work drinking a yummy cup of Nestle fat free hot chocolate. To me, it tastes just as good as the regular hot chocolate and helps satisfy the chocolate cravings.

Yum! chocolate. Now I want some, thanks ;)

You will notice some cravings become stronger, some weaker. If you are like me, you will even find that some things you liked preop you cannot stand now and some things you didn't like you want all the time.

Agree with Sasicas above--I want some chocolate now, too, thanks... LOL AND about the cravings for different things than pre-op. My aunt has a theory that our bodies will tell us what they need through cravings. It kind of makes sense to me--I do sometimes crave particular foods like grapefruit that sort of let me know I need more Vitamin C, for instance.

chocolate, now, that's just a girl thing, I think. Wasn't there something recently published about a hormonal link to chocolate cravings? I think that's license to indulge in an appropriate way--not OVER-indulge, but for me, no food is off-limits if my sleeve can tolerate it--it's about moderation and being sensible and healthy. Chocolate can fit into that. I put a little Hershey's Syrup in my iced coffee every day....two of life's fabulosities in one drink, with Protein and calcium!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
