Faster Weight Loss With Exercise?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 months post op and about to start an exercise program. I was wondering if anyone noticed their weight falling off quicker once they started exercising. Please share.... thx.

I noticed that the weight loss slowed down for now, but my clothes are getting looser faster. I have muscle in places I never had it before, or at least I never felt it. My butt and legs are firming up quickly (treadmill and bike) and I'm seeing some arm definition (weights). However, I drop sheer pounds faster when I'm not working out every day for now. I'm sure that will change as I get closer to goal and the exercise becomes more vigorous.

Yes but it also depends on your routine. If you only Zumba, you will see the effects of the weight loss drop off after awhile. If you mix up your excercise and include days of cardio, days of core, etc you will see more results...join the occasional boot camp, etc.

It is my firm opinion that everyone should exercise! I do not know what size I would have been if I had not kept up with exercise. I couldn't always control my weight, but I could always at least take the stairs, ride my bike, do some light yoga, etc.

One of our malnutrition concerns is brittle bones and osteoporosis, which is signifigantly reduced with exercise. It helps with diabetes and so much more.

Build up your cardio, but work on your core - it is the center of all you do, literally!

Um for some reason when I exercised I would gain or stall...something about gaining muscle??? That would discourage me, even though I know it's good for me. Now at goal I know I need to do it for my heart.

I have been exercising from 4 weeks (prior to that I was just walking), but was cleared for light exercise at 4 weeks and full exercise from 6 weeks. I have been loosing about3.5 pounds a week.

I dont think I would be loosing as fast if I wasnt exercising. I do a mix of cardio and weight training as well as personal training sessions. I think it also helps maintain tone on my body, maybe when I get to the end I wont have copious amount of extra skin this way.

Everyone is different. I found that I needed the exercise to tone up and lose the inches. It may have slowed my weight loss but I have still lost over 100 lbs. in less than 7 months. I have very little loose skin, I have combined cardio with strength training. Even when my weight loss slowed, I was losing inches like crazy, it was a good trade off. Looking back, I think that my increased calorie intake was more of the culprit than the exercise for my slowed weight loss and stalls. It is amazing that if you look back at your food journal that if you add a smoothie, Protein Bar or an extra shake in any where, it can jump your calories from 800 to 1200 real easy. I am about 16 lbs. from goal and I am getting ready to move it to the next level.

With just cardio you will drop weight quickly up to a point and then when your body is used to the exertion you will pleateau, however you will strengthen your endurance and cardiovascular system. With weight lifting you will not see the scale move as rapidly however you will be doing whats known as body sculpting. The weights are what actually change your body shape. Muscle requires a LOT of fuel to carry around and its primary source of grub is fat. Cardio can actually eat your muscle a bit if you run for to long. Most trainers recommend (and I got best results) from a split workout. It incorporates cardio and weightlifting. This will change your body type and make your heart healthier. Not knowing your stats I couldn't recommend what type of program is for you but you can always research and ask people in the gym who seem to get great results.

Hi, well I'm 2 years out and for the past 2 years I've not really exercised at all. . . just doing my own thing. I reached my doctors goal weight and even surpassed that without crazy workouts. . . but then it all stopped. . . dead stop! So now, as I head into my 3rd year out, I have started the gym. I go 3 x per week for only 30 minutes. What I do however, is this. . . treadmilling. I'll do a warmup for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes of heavy cardio by increasing the incline to 8 (highest level is 12) and the speed to 4.5mph, then after that, for the next 10 minutes, i slow it down gradually, until it's back to 0 incline and my heart rate is back into the 90's. I try to get the heartrate to get to 160 during the cardio walk. So i'm going to do this for about 7 weeks and see what happens. i really want to get to my own personal goal which is 170 lbs or so. I'm a complete success because i have met my doctors goal but i want to go a bit further and meet my own goals. . . I wish everyone the best of luck with their journeys.

I think you might retain a little Water. Give yourself a few weeks to see the real difference. And watch what you're eating. When I first started exercising (pre-WLS), I was hungrier and I ate more without realizing it.

I've been exercising 5 days a week (mixed program of walking, cardio, and strength training) since 6 weeks out. I think it has made a difference in my continued weight loss and in the way my body and skin look.

Everyone who is exercising should seriously think of avoiding the scale. It has absolutely no bearing on what you are doing. Yes, you will gain weight some days. Why? There is a balance of Water and salt and glycogen that is going to sway all over the place. Some people will work out for a week, gain two pounds and say, "Screw it!!", but that is not the answer. Weigh once a month, no more.

What good is it going to do you weighing more often?

Do you really think working out is bad for you?

Do you really think you are going to gain fat by working out?

Ditch the scale and believe in yourself and your exercise program. Do the best you can and push yourself harder each day.

Just an FYI, I usually weigh myself on the 20th of each month, but a friend was over this past Sunday and wanted to know how much I weighed. He hadn't seen me since Christmas and was amazed at how different I looked since. I have actually gained 3 pounds! But you know what? My pants are looser than they were around Christmas. So, I am gaining back some of the muscle I lost during the drastic drop. If my pants fit looser and I gain weight, then HALLELUJAH!! I am all for that.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
