Gastric Sleeve Surgery Tomorrow Morning At 8:00am

Recommended Posts

I am having my sleeve surgery tomorrow morning. I'm getting so nervous and have some second thoughts. But I know it is the right thing for me and my family. I have a 13 month old son and I want to around for a long time for him and my family. Had a friend who had the surgery two weeks ago and she had some complications. So I'm starting to freak out, been on a liquid diet for last week. Lost some weight but wasn't fun not eating a Christmas meal with rest of my family. My first time on this forum. Looking for some people on here and might can give me some tips on what to expect from surgery. My surgeon is Dr. Barker in Dallas, I heard he was one of the best so I do trust him. This is a life changing event, my life will never be same.

Thanks to anyone who can share their experiences or offer help for me.

I'm heading in tomorrow morning as well, with some of the same anxiousness. I am both scared and excited to begin this journey. Best wishes for you!

I can only speak for myself. My surgery was a breeze. I did not wake up in any pain, very comfortable. The gas pain was my only trouble. It hurts. My pain tolerance is pretty high. It was about a constant 7. Peaks of 8.5s. Swallowing made it hurt, heparin shots and anything that went into my IV really stirred up my gas. Make sure you get up as soon as you can and WALK. WALK, WALK, WALK. It does feel better and gets the gas moving. Have some chapstick on hand, your lips may be chapped. I had some issues with the whole post-op diet, still am. It's really a mind game and it is hard at times. I am very happy that I have done it, would do it all over again. Can't wait for this time next year to see the new me!

Congrats, Best of Luck and a speedy recovery to the both of you!

I am sending a prayer your way and the best of luck. In my experience I also had the nerves but all went well and all is well. Good luck and God Bless.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
