Well, that pesky stall broke - lost a little bit last week (after like 6 days of no weight loss!) but this week was great results at 5.8# lost!

So that is 28# lost since my surgery date and 36# counting my 2 week preop diet.

My valentine's day goal is really aggressive, but I am still shooting for it!

Today is my 4 weeks surgiversary!

SN: Forensikchic SW: 179 GW: 164 CW: 176 pounds to lose: 12

I am just all over the place this week. Sunday I was down to 175.2 which was my surgiversary. I weigh every day but I record Monday mornings weight for the challenge and I was back up to 176 on Monday, 175.9 today so I am going to call it a wash for this week. I guess I am stalling again. I hope it picks up later in the week. Wish me luck... I am still doing and eating the same things! I guess my body just has to decide when it will let go.

I'm in too. I currently am 184 but have bouncing up and down the same three lbs for over a month it seems. This week I have eaten only Protein with very few exceptions and exercised every day and I've still not seen any significant loss - I also really upped my Water intake to 75 ounces. Hoping this passes soon. I want to be 179 by the end of January and 175 by Valentine's Day. Here are my stats

SW - 235

CW - 184

Hi all,

I lost .9 lb.s this week and hit a mini-goal. I've lost 80 pounds post-op in a little less than 8 months. That better than the last two, but I'm gonna have to work harder to get to goal. I have 6.7 lbs. to go and 4.5 weeks. I did return to a full workout schedule this week, but didn't cut the snacking as much as I could. I'm gonna really buckle down this week and see how it goes. One week without Snacks won't kill me. I do not need movie theater popcorn to see a movie!!

My Valentine's Goal also includes reaching the following goals:

144: This was my Christmas goal and I've lost 110 lbs. (32 pre-op and 78 post op). 9 lbs. to my final goal!!!

142: I've lost 80 lbs. post-op

140: Five lbs. to my final goal!!!

139: My number starts with 13. I haven't weighed this since the early-90s.

135: GOOOAAAL!

I'm so in on this! I was really successful during the Christmas Challenge. I hope I'll be just as successful this time around smile.png. I am tempted to make my goal weight the Valentine's day challenge, but I was realistic for the Christmas challenge and I'll be realistic this time around too.

I should expect to lose weight much slower now than I did in the beginning.

SN: Kala SW: 169.3 GW: 160 CW: 169.3 pounds to lose: 9.3

EDIT: I'm going to make my goal a little lower. Why not? I'm changing it from 164 to 160 wink.png

I could have sworn I updated this at least once since I joined. I guess I didn't. I'm a little under one pound away from my Valentine's day goal. My weight loss has been really fast lately. Maybe I'm losing a little faster than is healthy for a lower weight (not that I'm complaining). I'll probably reach my goal before Valentine's day.

I started this challenge at 169.3 lbs on December 28. Now I'm 160.9 lbs.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
