Lap Band To Gastric Sleeve. Same Surgeon?

Recommended Posts

How many switched doctors after deciding to change from band to sleeve? I'm convinced the band failed me but, in some ways I feel resentment toward my doctor too. I think they should have warned me the about the possiblity of vomiting daily and possiblity multiple times a day. I knew vomiting was a possibility but not to this extent. He also told me with the band, I could eat everything only much smaller amounts. Thre are LOTS of foods I can't eat at all because I'll start to vomit. I know he's highly experienced but, he's definitely in it for the money. At least I'm familiar with him and his office is convinient to my home.

hi carbgrl

If i went to a dentist telling him that i had this problem, he fixed it, only for you to have to go back to a dentist to have it fixed again.

i don't think i would go to the same dentist/surgeon, how 'bout you?

kathy

ps. i posted this in error wtloss rate same for band to sleeve - ooops

I gotta agree with Kathy on this one. I doubt I would use the same surgeon for the band to sleeve revision unless I thought he was a stellar surgeon. I'd be worried that he wouldn't tell me the full story about any slippage or erosion from the band.

Is your doc at a center of excellence? Does he have rave reviews from VSG patients? Are you comfortable letting him dig around in your gut a second time?

Good luck! :)

He is at a center of excellence. I do think he's a good surgeon but, not the best bedside manner. Good point about possibility of not getting the full story re: any slippage or erosion. I'm going to check out some other doctors in the area.

I wouldn't let my Lap-band surgeon trim my toe-nails.

Hi Everyone:

I just saw my surgeon today regarding a revision from the band to the sleeve. I've had no issues with my band whatsoever, except that my weight loss has been extremely slow, only 28 lbs in one year! Not that I want those pounds back, but I expected better results after undergoing WLS! I've stuck to a diet, exercised and have been weighed by a nutritionist once every two-three weeks for a year!

Interestingly, my surgeon did not hesitate for a second, and immediately brought me the consent forms for the revision! He also immediately arranged my endoscopy on the spot!

I'll see him again once that is completed, and then on to the next step.

So, yes, I would definitely use the same surgeon, he understands the issues involved and wants to see his patients succeed.

I'm glad he was so helpful.

Cheers...

Mary

I'm not using the same surgeon for my sleeve revision. I'm like you, sort of angry at my band doctor....felt like I was a little mis-lead. I can't wait to get my band removed!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
