Dr Oz On Weight Loss Surgery

Recommended Posts

Dr Oz says in Prevention Magazine, " Listen, if you're one hundred pounds overweight at age fifty, you have the same mortality rate as if you have a solid cancer. Would you operate for cancer? Yeah. So if you cannot lose that weight, get one of these procedures. You have to do it with counseling and full awareness of what you're doing, of course. "

Wow, this really resonated with me- thanks for the inspiration. i decided to plan this surgery when my gynaecologist recently scared me by giving me some facts and figures about morbid obesity and cancer- i had been conning myself that it would all just work out until then. This just makes me feel so much more determined to do it.

Great post & thanks Dr. Oz :) I feel that when it comes to getting surgery and needing this tool, then its a first step to changing your life for the better. I know I don't like feeling unhappy and worried about my weight and what health problems this is causing. I remember I was asking a nurse a few questions about Vitamins and she asked what I was here for and I told her I am getting the vertical sleeve and she was giving me her opinion and said not to take the easy way out and to work for it! I was like I don't recall asking for your opinion...any who I respectfully thanked her and walked away. I learned quick to keep this private. I go to support groups, discuss with this forum and communicate with my bariatric team, I am aware of what I am doing and I am ready. I want to be healthy and want this tool, I want to live.

When I met with my surgeon the first time he told me almost the same thing; this is surgery to fight a disease. And YES, obiesity IS a disease. I am doing what I feel is necessary to keep me healthy, and I can't wait!! :) thanks for posting this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
