First Time Going Out To Eat After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

So every Christmas Eve my sisters and I (four in all) get together around 9:00 and we play Monopoly until midnight and then we go out to eat at Denny's.

Well, this year is obviously going to be a bit different for us as I can't eat the way they can. I'm a little nervous. I feel like I've spent the last hour going over every meal option on their website. I think I'm going for the prime rib skillet.. It has a lot of Protein. It's high on the carbs- but I won't really be eating the stuff with carbs in it. Just mainly the meat and eggs. Or there is a shrimp skewer- but to be honest I'm really tired of shrimp!

I really wanted the oatmeal with fresh fruit mixed in but it just didn't seem like a smart choice.... :(

How did you guys handle going out for the first time? What do you guys recommend for eating out?

If you're on solid foods, Denny's has some really good options. The waitress at mine lets me order from the senior or kids menus, which is nice. I love their senior tilapia dinner. I think it's one veggie and the fish is grilled, yummy.

Since you're only 20 days out, you might like some Soup better. Their chicken noodle is good and mine also had chili as an option the last time I was there. I couldn't eat a whole bowl of Soup at under a month post op.

The other thing I do there is to order eggs scrambled with cheese with a little salsa on the said. I doubt you'd be able to finish an order of scrambled eggs at this point. Oh, and the super bird sandwich with no bread (I just take the bread off) tastes pretty good. :)

Have a great evening with the girls!! :)

I would have one of their yummy omelets with ham and mushrooms..and cheddar. Dang I am so craving it right now.

Make sure to tell the wait staff that you had surgery so can't eat very much. They should let you order off the kids or seniors menu. You could even share with a sister who is dieting.

hi lissa -

my wls was on 12/15/11 - i thought broth was considered a liquid, and its "unlimited" I like to drink that as one of my liquids.

i know you're always supposed to drink 64oz of H20, but why is drinking all that Water, different, or better than drinking another liquid (not the broth) haven't got all mywater in yet, and not the Protein either, but i'm getting there.

thanx kathy

Water isn't necessarily better, but it is easier to say Water than "sugar free non-caffeinated beverage" all the time. :)

I count my Decaf coffee or decaf tea as "water" every day. I also count water into which I have added moo drops.

I also counted broth when I was still drinking lots of it. The reason broth is good, IMO, is that it gives you a little Protein.

Does that make sense? :)

I like to go sample my husband's food. Last night we went to Mimi's and we ordered a steak with baked potato and veggie's. He ordered a ceaser salad and french onion Soup, he thought he's not quite sure about sharing yet (he is new at this). But he actually ended up taking 1/2 the steak and 1/2 his potato home. It was fun.... I only eat about 5 bites at the most. ;) Have fun and Merry Christmas. ;)

Thanks guys. I went with the prime rib skillet. Two bites of meat (super moist and tender), and three bites of an egg and I was done. I'm not a very big egg eater as prior to surgery they weren't something that agreed well with me. It was weird at first watching my sisters plow through an appetizer but over all I just had fun having all of us together- it is so rare for that to happen now that we are all older.

Merry Christmas all!

Sounds like you had a great time!!

How did the prime rib sit? The reason I ask is that I didn't try steak until about 3 months out because I was afraid it would be hard to digest. It definitely kept me full that day as well!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
