Pain In Legs-is That Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I was sleeved on Monday the 19th. I am having some pain in my legs and in my calf muscles. Is that normal? Do you think I need to be getting in more fluids? Has anyone experienced this?

That could be a sign of a blood clot. Are you walking around a lot to keep the circulation going? Did you doc send you home on a blood thinner? Is your leg warm near the area where you are feeling pain? I think you should call your doctor right away.

I had surgery Tues, 12/13-got home Thurs. , Fri I had tremendous pains in my calves, my Dr told me go to the emergency room. After being there about 5 hrs(still nauseous with diarrhea- I had an EKG, vascular ultrasound on my legs, blood testing- they determined I had low Ca & Mg. They told me go home and call my Dr.-they gave me nothing! I left ER & my DH took me directly to my WLS Dr., still with pain in both calves that I could barely walk. He told me take liquid Vitamin, Ca chews and drink Protein Drink, which I did and felt much better. Now I take liquid vitamins, sublingual B-12 and Ca chews, and I am doing 1000% better.

My Dr told me he was afraid that the pain may indicate blood clots, which can break off & got to your heart (causing heart attack), brain (causing stroke) or lungs (causing death) which is why he sent me to the ER. hope its just a Mg & Ca deficiency , so the pain will stop within an hour or so. (This type of deficiency is not that uncommon after surgery, especially if you had nausea & diarrhea). But again, it could be a blood clot, so contact your Dr. Good Luck and God bless.

Thank you for the advice. I was able to contact my Dr. and she recommended that I try some Gatorade today. I hope it helps.

Hope the gatorade helps, if not, please do not hesitate to go to the ER, just in case it is a blood clot. Hopefully it goes alway and you have a wonderful joyful Christmas with your new tummy.

I hope the gatorade helps. If not like everyone else said go to the ER. I went home a day after my surgery and after sitting at home for a few hours I ended up going to the ER and asking to be re-admitted to the hospital. It was just too much at home and I couldn't handle it. Everyone was really nice and understood completely that I was having it rough.

Try rubbing your legs and a heating pad too. That always helps me with aches and pains, if the gatorade doesn't help that is. Good Luck.

Try walking. I did have a blood clot in my leg before surgery. It felt like the never-ending, worst charlie horse ever. I had the pain for 3 days before I finally went to the doctor. Once I was dx with the clot, I was not allowed to walk until they had me on a blood thinner.

The bad part of clots is that they can break off pieces and send them to other places...and KILL you quickly. Once I was on the blood thinner, I was required to walk for 10 minutes every hour, even if it was 1 minute every six minutes.

Now that I've scared you, my legs hurt way more than my stomach did after surgery. I was using my leg muscles to compensate for my stomach hurting.

Use the Calcium and magnesium, but also keep in mind that the pain should be gone very very quickly if those are the causes. If the pain isn't gone in a few hours, go back to the ER or the doctor if it's not just soreness from using the muscles too much.

I actually woke from up surgery in the recovery room in the middle of a terrible cramp in both calves, and the compression cuffs they had on my legs were excruciating. I whined at the nurses and they say they gave me something for it (no idea what), and when they kept reoccurring, over and over every time I tried to flex my legs, they did blood work to see if my potassium and sodium were low (they weren't). My legs were good and sore for three or four days after. I haven't had a charlie horse in years previously.

Muscle cramps can be caused by dehydration. You probably weren't allowed to drink anything for awhile before surgery. Are you prone to cramps? Maybe you had cramps during the surgery, and this is the lasting soreness that you're feeling. If that's the case, a heating pad and tylenol should help.

BUT... I agree with the others above, see if a sports drink helps (watch the calories! lots of them are full of sugar) and if not, go directly to your ER, do not pass go or collect $200!

I had pain/soreness in my calves after surgery also. i went to the ER and they did ultra sounds on my legs to test for clots and they found none. The did re-admitt me because i was severly dehydrated. they were unable to get an IV in after 6 tries on both arms and hands. they has to have a specialist come in and stick me. I would say that your pain/soreness is from dehydration/ low electrolytes like mine was. also walk as much as possible. if gatorade doesnt help go to the ER. MY surgery was on November 8th of this year

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
