New here with some questions :-)

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone...

I have been lurking for a while, absorbing all the information on here, and now have a few questions...

FYI, I am 34, have two children, am about 5'7", was a high about 243 lbs when I started this journey, and am down to 229 this morning (and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 11th)..

What exactly is a PB and what is sliming? I have a general idea, but what does PB stand for and what exactly happens...

Also, when the band is placed, I assume there is no fill at all, but thought I have read a couple of posts where a fill was put in at the time of surgery??? Just curious about what the general rule is...

Thanks in advance! All of you are wonderful inspirations!

Sherry

PB means productive burp...it is revisiting your food all over again :tea: It happens with this type of surgery, mostly after you have had fills I think than before. I was banded a week ago and have had no incidence of this.

I wish you good luck on your band journey. Take time and read everything on here and ask questions and you will be well informed.

Check out these forums for loads of info - Lap-Band FAQs and References

It's the last forum listed in the main section of forums. There is a thread that explains lots of abbreviations and terms, as well as other great stuff.

and welcome!

Hey and Welcome.. You can get all the info you need on this board.. Its awsome and the people here will hold your hand till your surgery.. The support here is awsome.. A pb is productive burp.. It is when food gets stuck and you have to BURP it up.. Sliming is when your body makes lots of spit to try to move an item that is stuck..

And most US doc. do not do fills at the time of surgery. Good luck and keep in touch....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
