OH MY WORD TALK ABOUT BURN!!! Does anyone out there have suggestions on what to do about heartburn? I have it so bad that sometimes I just start puking up the acid (I know gross). I get it no matter what I eat. I seriously always have to have a bottle of tums with me & sometimes the tums don't work either. I will be 8 weeks out on the 24th of December. Does this get better or will I always have this problem? I have never in my life really had experienced heartburn before this. Any help would be appriciated!

Did your doctor give you a prescription for something a little stronger than Tums? I have Prevacid solutabs. They seem to work pretty well. I take one a day. Years ago I had a bad heartburn problem (not surgery related) and took protonix. Worked wonders.

Heartburn is a known side-effect of the sleeve. Take Pepcid or Tagamet for a few days plus omeprazole, which takes a few days to take effect, and then stop the Pepcid/Tagamet. I took omeprazole from the day after surgery up until about nine months out, but studies show that acid comes back in a significant number of people 2-3 years post-op so I'm ready to take it again if I need to..

I just bought some acid controller from Walgreens. I didnt ask my surgeon or doctor. I have seen enough ppl on here say that they take it after surgery. I am 3 days post op and I needed some relief!!
