*sigh* Feeling Down In The Dumps

Recommended Posts

Ok so next month is "supposed" to be my last appointment before my paperwork gets submitted to insurance BUT switching from Aetna to UnitedHealthcare come Jan 1. I am so desperate for this surgery it is not even funny. I think I am worrying myself sick about getting denied with the new company and having to wait longer.

I'm 25 years old and 375lbs. Recently was told I was slightly diabetic which means I am diabetic (as my mom says you either are or you aren't). Had a diabetic scare when I was visiting my mom in the hospital. Started shaking and felt like I was going to pass out, turns out it was because I hadn't eaten in 4 hours, blood sugar was less than 80 . It was awful. My knees are in pain and at work walking from buidling A to building C is literally hell on my lower back. I'm actually ashamed I let myself go like this and that it has gotten to this point.

I just hope they approve me right away for surgery and get me on the pre-op diet. My body is in so much pain I'm ready to take charge NOW and get my life back.

Just thought I'd vent and get support. I've been really depressed lately.

Thank you everyone.

Girl, hang in there, it will happen for you. Do you have to switch healthcare providers right now? Can you maintain your insurance for a few more months before switching? I'm putting a good vibe out there for you!

I know it's different policies but I have UHC and was approved..having surgery in 5 days. I've also read MANY that were approved with UHC. Keep positve and hopeful,,it will happen. If you have comorbitities, your doctor can go to bat for you if you are denied for whatever reason stating surgery is a medical necessity. This approval thing is a long drawn out process and can make you anxious and stressed,,it did for me and it was alot of unnecessary worrying :) Good luck!!

Keep pushing for it and it will happen. I went through a job change and 2 surgeons(they both left their practice). I didn't think it

was ever going to happen for me. I started the process in March and should have had surgery in October, things worked out the way they did and I was sleeved 12/6/11. It will happen for you, keep your eye on the prize smile.png

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
