3d Week Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet Gah

growl. i'm trying to stuff my new sleeve. i am having a fit limiting myself to 6 oz of food per day. the new 3d week diet adds cottage cheese (i hate it but will eat the whole box) yoghurt (i bought plain and hate that, too, but will eat the whole box) canned veggies and egg. I do not know when I have had enough. I put the food in a dish and i put the boxes and stuff away and I still want more. I'm not finished. And right now, I am salivating thinking about eating lunch. Now, if someone could tell me how to change this 'habit' it would help a good deal. But if no one can, then what the heck is the use of the sleeve???? I was ok on the liquid only and made it thru 2 weeks and lost 20 lbs. Now with limited food, i am going crazy. i have felt hunger, too. grrrrrrrrrrr

Oh rosy that sucks big time!

Do you not get any pain when you feel full? I know I hiccup and burp a lot, and will have bad acid reflux when I am full.

I don't think you have to eat plain yogurt do you? I know that I buy carbmaster's from Kroger. When I first started food I was doing the same thing because I was dying for food, period. I mean who wouldn't be after basically starving and drinking fluids for 2 weeks right? I have pushed my sleeve too far many many many many times and although I have not thrown up I have started to learn my lesson.

I don't know what to say about feeling hunger, I don't feel hunger at all. Many people will tell you it's acid. I don't have that problem so I dunno.

I don't know if I am the best person to lift you up because I too have some wishey washy feelings about my sleeve. I hate it and I love it, but mostly right now I hate it. I feel like maybe I could have gotten some emotional eating help or overeating help before the sleeve and then I would be better off. I always want to eat. I eat a yogurt, and even though I know I am supposed to feel satisfied I am not. Belly is satisfied but my mind is not. This is still very hard for me as far as my mind goes. We get a pizza and I want to eat a few pieces but I can't, I have literally cried because I want to eat more and I can't.

I know you have been through hell since getting the sleeve and I hate that for you, I truly do. I hope things get better and you can eat and not have any problems. You have lost of ton of weight though which is so great! Would you say that losing the weight is worth everything you have gone through? I hope so, but maybe not because you have been through a lot. I'm wishing you the best and letting you know I too am going through hell right there with you!

My surgeons tell me to take a bite, wait 10 minutes then take another. LOL who can do this? I can't, so what I do is take a bite wait a few minutes and take another bite. Recently, I remembered at the orientation for bariatric surgery for weight loss, the head doc at Kaiser stated, "it will take you 45 minutes to eat half a sandwhich." Doing the math because I had a tendency to eat a little too much, I divided 45 by 10 minutes and figured out that I can only take about 4.5 bites per meal. That has helped alot. So now I count bites and try to slow them down.

I was always hungry for the first 8 weeks. My surgeons never told me about prilosec or nexium for the stomach acid. I received feedback from other members of our club and they suggested prilosec. Since beginning taking it, my hunger has decreased. Today I found that I continue to loose weight at a good pace. about 2 lbs since last tuesday. Love it....

Give your tummy time to register that you are full. Put your food down after taking a bite and do something, then come back to it. If you don't like cold food, then keep the food in a tortilla warmer. You might find this helpful..

Congrats! Your hungry tummy monster will adjust LOL. ;)

Hey there, sounds like you're struggling. I don't have a whole lot of experience, was sleeved 12/6/11...But I have had problems with hunger too. What helps me is Protein shakes and drinking enough Water. The Protein really fills me up, I like the Atkins drinks.

Are you eating slowly? I know it's a pain in the a$$ and challenging to do at first, and then I feel like "3 bites, that's it??? Ridiculous, I'm still hungry!!!" But I actually am full, and it's just my head playing tricks.

Also, I would talk to your surgeon, because if you are able to eat a whole box of cottage cheese ( I don't know exactly how much it is but sounds like a lot) WITHOUT any problems, pain, vomiting etc, then something might be up with your sleeve.

I'm so sorry you're feeling bad.

Box is 1lb of cottage cheese. Yoghurt is plain but I put Walden Farms calorie free dip in it. If u haven't seen these, u gotta check 'em out because they have 0 zip nada value but they make drek taste petty good!

Anyway how do u bite and chew any of the above? Next week, at least, I get fish hoo hah but this mush is driving me insane. I want to find a shrink for bariatric surgery. Is there such an animal? I'm gonna call the hosp to find out now. My old shrink isn't helping much.

Thanks for the encouragement and no,I've lost weight but I don't care cuz this is too hard for me. I want food. I can't find a substitute and I can't think about banything else. And yes, I am exercising!

I can't have any more Protein Shakes at this time. I'm limited to the foods I outlined and the Clear Liquids from the last 2 weeks. After this week, I gotta drop the potato, too. Fooey. That's the one thing that sets me off real bad. Icrave the potato. I'm drooling as I type

I was sleeved 4 months ago and luckily o haven't had to much problems. I do hiccup as I am getting to a very full point I have heard others say that taking the meds for the indigestion helps with the hungry feeling so maybe someone else will see this and be able to give u more info but I was taking meds for this before surgery so not sure sorry

The hunger I felt early on was really acid. When I felt hunger, I would take a GASX strip, let it dissolve, and drink either warm tea or broth. I also took Famotadine (Pepcid) morning and evening and Prilosec before bed. Now at 10 months out, I only take Pepcid in the am and occasional prilosec at night if I've eaten spicy food.

The hint about drinking all your fluids to keep from feeling hungry is a good one. Warm stuff worked better for me than cold.

Your stomach (sleeved or not) takes 20 minutes to register to your brain you are full. Spread out your eating over 20 minutes - I don't care if it is 4 bites of plain yogurt.

I support your desire to work with a professional on your emotional issues with eating. If you can't find a shrink, look for a counselor or a hypnotist. I have had great results working with one to get control of my addictions to food. Like someone else on this forum says, "they operated on our stomachs, not our brains". There is also a shrink that works with the support group I go to. I am going to schedule an appointment with him to work with me one on one.

Even though I have lost most of the weight I intend to lose, now comes the part that makes me nervous - keeping it off. This is where I have failed before. That is why I am really focusing on working on my brain to fix the problems there.

Rosy try seein if your doc will prescribe an anti-acid.. prilosec or protonix, my doc was telling me that the anti-acid will actually cut down on the hunger feelings as the acid is the main cause for that.

I've been taking nexium 40 since day one. But thanx anyhow. I find I can't eat after the second meal tho I might want to...

Rosy, I also urge you to try some Prilosec and/or Pepcid. Maybe the nexium is not enough or the right acid reducer for you.

There is definitely a head hunger issue here, IMO. One of the things that helped me was to find something I actually liked. I hated sweets right after surgery. Crystal light and the special k Protein waters were gross to me, for example. Luckily I found Mio drops to add to my Water. Getting in my liquids has been so much easier since then.

You said you don't like cottage cheese or yogurt really, so can you try something else on the list for mushed? I puréed Wendy's chili and a can of beef stew during the mushiness stage, just for some variety.

Lastly, I agree that a therapist is a great idea! I see one and she has been a huge help with keeping me on track. Mine is not a bariatric specialist, but she allows me to clarify my thoughts. It's like talking to a friend with infinite patience. But one who wont let me fool myself.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
