The Gastric Sleeve Helped Me Avoid Treats At Work!

Recommended Posts

At work right now we are getting in SOOO many presents from vendors such as Godiva chocolates, real French macaroons, Cookies, cakes, etc etc. I know that if it wasn't for the sleeve I would eat them ALL but I've only had half of a Godiva chocolate...and didn't really care for it. I don't know why! Maybe my tastes have changed since being sleeved. It was today when I finally decided to cave in and try a treat. When a new present comes in I keep hoping it is something non-food but it never is. How different than the old me when food was the most important thing.

Anyone else have a sleeve that's keeping them from holiday temptations??

Yep!! I had a couple of days where I realized that while I couldn't eat five Cookies in one sitting, I could eat five over the run of the day. So everything went into the freezer (baking to give away to neighbours) and nothing sits out anymore. And sharing with people that I have the sleeve makes them think twice before offering me anything.

Good for you on avoiding those temptations!

I just celebrated my birthday and I only had one bite of cake. Then I was through! In the past I could have eaten the entire cake by myself. Holiday treats are about the same. I just don't care for them that much. If there is something I want, I am able to just take a bite and that's all I need. Amazing how the sleeve changes everything. I love it!!

I too have discovered that I don't like certain junk foods I used too LOL. But I think it's because I'm beginning to feel a little better about myself. I am going to keep up the good work!

I focus on Protein first. I am 11 weeks post opt and I just discovered I am about 20 lbs to my goal weight. But actually, I have reached a huge goal of healthy cholesterol, and no diabetes.

We are all doing great! Merry Christmas too all Sleevers.

Not my sleevie, my sleevie LOVES JUNK food LOL! Sometimes I can only take a bite or 2 of a wonderfully balanced healthy meal, but junk goes down waaaaayyyyy toooooo easy.

I still enjoy many of those 'tempting' foods, but I find that I'm satisfied with a bite or two when in my pre-op life, I wouldn't have thought twice about eating an exorbitant amount of "bad" things (whether sweets or just carb-heavy holiday fare). I've mostly avoided the sweets at work, but I will probably have a tough time on Christmas Day when we have savory snack foods out all day (like crackers & cheese dip, sausage and cheese trays, etc.).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
