I'm I Getting Good Restriction With My Gastric Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys

I have been losing weight pretty steadily since I have been sleeved, but my doc told me I need to get in more Protein to maintain my muscle mass. For Breakfast I feel restriction with the whites of two eggs, I throw out the yellow, but at lunch i had half a baby bel cheese and a slice of Boars head maple turkey (deelish, by the way) and I didn't really feel tight so i ate the other half and two more slices of turkey. Does this seem like a lot of food until restriction? the egg white seemed right on to me, they were small and the whites alone equalled about one medium egg, but a wheel of babybel and three slices of deli turkey seems like much. Im about7weeks out. Is that an excessive lunch til restriction or is it about right on?

I don't think a single babybel and 3 slices of turkey sounds like a lot, even for 7 weeks out. If you're chewing well, then you aren't hurting anything as long as you don't have pain after you eat. Protein is very important, so that sounds pretty good to me. :)

I think it sounds fine. That stuff isn't too heavy so you should prolly be able to eat more of it. I can eat 2 cheese sticks and feel full, but then on the flip side I can eat half a piece of pizza and feel full too. The difference for me is I chew the cheese less and eat it faster so it hits me harder. Whereas the pizza I am nervous so I take smaller bites and chew it super good and eat it much much slower.

I can also eat about 4 piece of squared colby jack cheese with about 10-12 club crackers and that fills me up too. It sounds like I can eat more than you and I am only 3.5 weeks post op! So I would say your doing great. Keep up the good work.

Check the nutritional info on the lunchmeat, I think 3 slices might be no more than an ounce or 2. A babybel cheese is just under an ounce as well.

I was eating about 2 oz per meal in my second month so it sounds like you are on track. eggs (or egg whites) fill me up faster than other Proteins.

Hi there, I was intrigued about your progress, as I was once a merchant marine myself, Whew! Thats over. but along the lines of your protein thing...I would take a tiny food processor with me on the ship, slip in your pocket size, and when you can, process any lean meets at meals as a spread for dry toast. Lots of protein and healty and taste great. Kellogs makes protein Water, a little pricey, but beats loosing your hair. They come in 6 packs, and could be good in a pinch. You can get tempeh shrink wrapped and flavored in chinese food stores and some at the fresh food area of the grocery stores, and it has a mazillion times more protein than any meat. I like it.

i have no problems eating solid food, i can eat chicken and stake and eggs and fish, shrimp, whatever. I ate half of one of those huge chicken breast shake and baked last night, i can slam down 8-9 pieces of sashimi and octopus no problem, lol...i dont need pureed mush, ive been back on regular food for a long time just looking for ideas :) no hair falling out here :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
