Why Oh Why Can't I Lose Weight!

Recommended Posts

I love all the great feedback here. You are doing fine.... Try not too worry so much, it will come off when you least expect it too. You are doing all the right things. Your good and the weight will begin to drop before you know it. I don't tie my self to the scale any more. Sometimes I was fearing that I was loosing weight too fast. But this is what I wanted and needed. My body is looking better everyday and I'm 11 Weeks post off. Love it more and more. ;)

You had said you aren't getting the required liquids (64 I think you said). I stall quickly if I don't drink enough. I carry a 2L jug around everywhere ( yes it's big lol) and I know I need to finish that each day. The cheese is good, but it sometimes makes me constipated ( sorry if tmi) making me seem to stall.

cheese is not high carb, but it is calorie dense. I suggest you use one of the tracking tools to see what you are really eating.

Sounds like you are right on track. The first post was actually some really good insight, because your body is freaking out and thinking(correctly) that it is in starvation mode and needs to protect itself. This will change because, well, physics -You are burning more then you are consuming. As far as carbs go, a good beginning number is to stay under 40 carbs per day. And if that is yielding no results, stay under 30. I found switching out my cheese with low fat cottage cheese was great because you get all the same Protein, but way less calories, and honestly, more mass. This becomes more important later when you can fit more. Drinking Water right now is the biggest thing you can do to jump start your weight, along with exercising, so your surgeon can freak out and get mad all he wants, but his job is to provide the tool to help you lose weight, and if it's not working because of simple common sense of your body reaction to the weight loss so far, then he is more concerned about his personal stats and numbers versus helping you be healthier. Either way, the scale does move. It's seemingly just as slow and painstakingly as it was doing diets prior to WLS, but trust me, take it a day at a time and make the best choices you can and you'll get there before you know it!!

@ runner, I was cheating, if that what you call it. It was in no way cheating like i used to but I was cheating none the less. I got it into my head that maybe I wasn't eating enough calories to lose weight. So yeah I was cheating but honestly I was still not even getting close to 1000 calories a day, I couldn't lol.

I am just concerned that I am doing something wrong, like maybe the cheese has too many carbs or too much fat. I'm just so fed-up with the scale not moving that I keep telling myself I MUST be doing something wrong! I am not writing what I eat down so I am going to start tallying my stuff up because I want to see if I have some problems somewhere. I hate stalls.

I keep trying to tell myself that it happens and to not be mad but I am. My poop is good LOL I try not to get too excited when I poop and lose weight though because poop will happen again and I will weigh more again.

Thanks for all your replies though I really appreciate it. I was still wondering how many carbs people are eating? Is there a magic number I should try to shoot for?

Well Thank you guys again for all the feedback. Today is a new day, and I am armed with a new attitude! I am going to watch my carbs. I do not know how many I was eating but I know it was WAY more than 40. So I am gunna turn into a carb tracking machine! I am also going to track my Water amd everything else too, that always seems to bring me back when I have strayed. When everyone says "this is just a tool" they aren't lying. I have, in my crazy messed up food addicted way, found a way to get in more carbs than I need to. I didn't even know I was doing it, but I was. I am ADDICTED to CARBS!

Anywho, I love this site you guys are completely awesome thank you for replying to my post. I am in my 3 (or somewhere in there) week stall but I am not doing myself any favors by giving in to my carbmonster and eating unneccesary calories, fat, etc. Even if no one said anything specifically all your posts helped me get to a better place in my head and I am ready to push forward.

I am going to see my surgeon today, if he says something about me not losing enough I will say I am doing the best I can. My accountability to him means a lot to me, but it shouldn't mean everything.

Thanks you guys!

I just wanted to add a small suggestion for those who are wanting to reduce carbs. After a couple of months I switched from milk to almond milk in my shakes. It still gives me something creamier than using Water, but it's lower in carbs and calories. Just make sure you buy the unsweetened. I use vanilla unsweetened.

For those of you who are only a few weeks out, though, I still think milk's a good idea, in part because it helps boost your Protein intake. Besides, you're eating so little, you really need the extra calories.

I am about 2+ months postop. I started running again and doing a lot of walking. I lost 60 lbs my first two months, never had the 3 wk stall, but I feel stalled now!!!!!!!! HELP

what am I doing wrong? I hate the shakes, but do a pre mixed one daily. I eat my Protein, yes I occasionally snack, but calorically I'm way under my 1200 I think. So...........................

I am not even a year out and have only been able to lose 1-2lbs a month for the last 8 months. However in lost and regaid120lbs and the doctors believe the sleeve didn't do enough and are suggesting I go in for a revision to the full gastric once I hit my year mark, which I plan to do seeing as I have a minimum of 67lbs to lose..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
