I really like Sushi/Sashimi too. I've had it several times since surgery. I usually share with friends and have a couple of rolls or pieces with rice and then some sashimi. I don't eat all the rice on the regular sushi though or I wouldn't have room for anything else. Cooked items I've had include ebi (steamed shrimp), spider (soft shelled crab), tempura shrimp roll, and eel. The tempura shrimp and crab are the only breaded/fried things I've had since being sleeved but since they are sliced very small the calorie load is acceptable to me. Enjoy your birthday!

I had sushi last night for dinner. I ate about 1/3 a bowl of egg drop Soup first, then I had a Philadelphia roll with light rice. It was cut in to 6 pieces & I was able to eat all 6 pieces exactly as I ate them before. I just picked it up, dipped it in the wasabi soy sauce & YUM! I just chewed well, but I tolerated it without any issue. I LOVE that my bill was $13 & I also paid for my son's kid meal in that!!

Hey UXgrrl,

First happy birthday! I went to sushi with my daughter on Wednesday. We ordered the sushi with light brown rice. Love spicy tuna. Then we used chopsticks and ate the middle without the seaweed or much rice so we were able to eat two different rolls she has lap band. Also try cucumber salad, includes crab or shrimp generally. It was awesome. My daughter said she goes to one place where they will make sushi without rice, but darn I am having brain fade and do not recall the name of the place. Maybe just ask?

Have fun.

I have heard of people ordering it without rice. I just prefer to order it as is and eat a smaller amount.

I get a shrimp roll with no cucumber since it is raw. So, it is shrimp and avocado only. I can generally eat two pieces at a time.

Good luck!

My typical order: Hamachi sashimi (slices of raw Yellowtail) and/or Sake sashimi (raw Salmon) with Wakame (seaweed salad). I love raw fish, so this might be too fishy for some. It's 100% Protein and greens, with a bit of sesame oil and seeds. Very good for you. I may order Miso Soup as well if I'm still hungry. I can't do the rice much anymore - fills me up too fast and the carb to protein ration for the meal can't be done on a regular basis. This order is something I can do frequently and not botch my diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
