New Lease On Life! 11 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am new to this site! I have been searching for a site where I can asked questions, read other people's thoughts etc. I am 11 days post op of my VSG surgery. I went in on Friday December 9, 2011 and was discharged on Sunday 12/11/11. I had a minor complication, I failed my swallow study on Saturday, was then restricted to 1-2 oz of Water every hour for a week due to the fact that there was no blockage, but the barium didn't past right away. On Sunday night, Monday AM i couldn't hold anyting down- was vomitting saliva, water, pain meds. I called my surgeron ASAP that AM and was told to come in right away- he did an Upper GI to make sure there was not a blockage. When he was in there was no blockage, but decided to dilate my stomach to 12mm. I felt soo much better after that! After that I was put onto liquid diet.

I followed up with my surgeon on Thursday and was put on pureed diet. I am down 26lbs since the start of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet- and since my surger lost 6 pounds.

I am very excited on my new lease on life- as I feel. I'm ready to explore new things with my 5yr old that I didn't want to do before because I always felt judged.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing/talking with all of you throughout our journeys!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
