Side Hurts After Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am just 6 days post op and my side where the port was and drain really is tight! I feel like I can't stand straight. Normal? I don't remember this with my lapband. All this said I look forward to a new start after having such a horrible time with the band. Banded Dec. 2008 lost 70 lbs. Slipped and surgery revision June 2010. Now another surgery to revise to sleeve. All three I had a hiatal hernia. I hope this fixes all and I can open a new page on the book. Loose the weight I regained (30lbs) and get to goal.

Any words of encouragement.......

Thanks

Lots of sleevers have some pain in the side where the largest incision was done. That's the one where the extra stomach was taken out and, often, is the incision where most of the equipment was inserted. I believe there is also a stitch inside that incision which dissolves over time, but can feel painful with certain activities early on.

I did not have a lap band, but I've read that some have pain where the port was, possibly because of adhesions/scarring from the port.

You mentioned a drain, so I assume you have one still. Your doc will remove that at your first post-op appointment, which will give some relief.

Hang in there, it will get better very quickly!

Good luck!! :)

PattieW,

I'm with you. Besides the Band revision, I also had my gall bladder out. I still feel like I've been kicked in the side one week post-op. When I stand up, I have to make a conscious effort to straighten up. Hang in there. We'll get better together. cheers2.gif

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
