Welllllllll...I assume you will be on a "liquid" diet 2 weeks out, which for me inlcuded sugar free pudding, Jello, strained Soups, etc...

check out the nut section of the forum, I picked up on a lot of good stuff in there!!

Also try different proteing drinks and see what you like...I have a sugar free carnation instant Breakfast each morning with a scoop of chocolate Protein powder and 16 oz of skim milk...

Also don't forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!

surgery date: oct 12, 11

Don't worry too much about the gain. I did the same thing for no apparent reason and was able to lose it all a few days late. Your body is just trying to adjust to all this, so it can do some weird things sometimes. Just make sure you get your Protein and Water in and you will get back on track with the losing. Also, I notice that with me eating so much protein and cheese, I end up being constipated pretty regularly. After taking some Miralax or Fiber tablets, I'm able to loose more once I'm finally able to "go", lol. HTH

Does your doctor's office not have a nutritionist on staff? I was required to attend a 6-hour pre-surgical nutrition class where they gave me a binder full of the meal plans for first 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, etc. At one month out I was only able to eat pureed foods like refried Beans, soft scrambled eggs, soft cheeses, canned tuna/chicken, etc. My nutrition class also provided all the Protein and liquid requirements, along with my Multivitamin requirements.

If your surgeon has not provided any of these things he has done you a great disservice and I would highly recommend you call his office and demand more information. You may be putting yourself at health risk by eating certain foods too early out, or not getting enough Protein and/or hydration.

Good luck.

I second the suggestion to demand this information from your surgeon/support team.

Did they have you progress to pureed, then mushies and then onto solid food?

The general guidelines I have are that you should eat your Proteins first, then green/low carb veggies and then complex carbs (like fruit and higher carb veggies). Most surgeons call for eating 3 mini meals and 2 Snacks per day. Do not drink for 30 minutes before the start till 30 minutes after the end of the meal. The food should be premeasured to limit volume. Really, small, quantities - like maybe 1/2 cup or so for the total meal.

Don't forget your Vitamins.

I think almost everyone gains a pound or two when they first start solids. It WILL pass. You cannot eat enough to truly gain anything right now.

Chew well, eat what your sleeve tolerates and try not to eat anything that's too dense for your sleeve. It will be awhile before it can really handle steak or raw veggies, but you will get there.

Good luck!! :)

I wouldn't worry about the gain right now. I am sure it is just Water gain or it has something to do with your body adjusting to all the changes. Just make sure you are getting in your Protein and fluids. That is most important at first. I wish you the best!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
