3 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Well it was a stressful start, but I'm sleeved. I am really sore (more than my other sleeve buddies I met) and i'm constantly fighting nausea. I'm in able to SIP Water and hold it down so that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying apple juice now, as I wait for my plane ride home... its hard to keep down so I'm alternating between juice & water.

I'm terrified to try taking a pain pill.... I really don't want to throw up. Hiccups are also playing hell on me. Any suggestions?

i had problems with nausea and i had to get some meds that you rub on ur wrist it helped some not alot and the Water part i had so much trouble getting it in. 64ozs is not easy. i would just sip sip sip set my alarm to go off every 15min hit snooze and it would start all over again and i would sip and get it in but it took couple of days for the 64oz and all the dr would tell me was get it in or you will be in the hospital that was not an option for me. so try the every 15min use a med cup fill it and take at least 4 sips per med, cup full with in the 15 min and by the end of the day...you should have it...i am 1 month out and i noticed the other day that i was able to drink a 16oz bottle in less than an hour . hope that this helps.

Do you delute the apple juice? Sometimes too much sugar can cause nausea. Didn't your doctors give you meds for nausea and pain that were not pill form? You should ask for them because they are available.

So glad you made it! I was wondering about you all weekend. Glad you are okay. Just take it slow and dilute the juice.< /p>

Can see a Dr and get any type or liquid narcotic ? I was Lortap for the first weeks,or you can take liquid tylenol as well. Is hard to drink at the beginning but it gets better.

I had liquid pain meds, but I only took a couple doses once I got home. Try warm liquids. They are more soothing on your healing tummy. I have never been a tea drinker, but mint tea with a squirt of agave was heavenly on those first few days. Keep walking. Movement improves everything. Good luck to you! And congrats!

To date that is all I can drink, Water and diluted unsweetened applejuice. I have tried others, and they are just straight up too sweet. I am dealing, I am happy with the results, so just hanging in there. Hope things get better with you. I am a little over three months out and still have issues swallowing pills. In due time I guess. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
