When Did You Start A Regular Diet?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on tuesday 12-13 and am already craving real food. I know that I physically can not eat it but that doesn't stop the cravings. So essentially my question is when did everyone start their regular diet? My surgeon has me on full liquids for 2 weeks and then mushies until 8 weeks....then a regular diet. Is this typical?

Unfortunately there is no "typical" each doctor is different. Mine was full liquids (which included purees) for the first two weeks. Then "soft" foods for 2 weeks. Then full diet at 4 weeks (except bread, Pasta, rice and some fibrous veggies).

I have seen some people whose doctors require Protein shakes only until you reach goal!

There are lots of "Pureed" dishes that are close to real food. Refried Beans with cheese and salsa, pureed Soups, chili.

Good Luck. This time too shall pass.

I started regular food at 5 weeks out, but the nut does caution that we should start slowly and try softer foods before graduating to harder to digest foods like salad and steak.

I know 8 weeks seems like a longgg lonnnnggggg time, but once your'e through it, you will forget most of the hassles that were associated with mushies and clear/full liquids. It's kind of like childbirth, otherwise no one would ever have a second child! :)

Good luck with your journey!! :)

At 9 weeks is when all my restrictions were lifted.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
