I'm a week and half post op and I'm having the problem of not feeling "Full". I'm following my Dr's. plan of drinking a bottle of Water (8oz) every 2hrs from 8am-8pm. (Extending the gap to 3hrs the last 3hrs) I'm now on full liquids/soft foods (mashed potatoes, pudding etc.) and I'm still having issues of not feeling full. I actually tried mashed potatoes for the first time today and stopped after about 5-6 spoonfuls. I still didn't get the full sensation, but stopped because I became nauseated. I'm assuming I was eating too fast as I have eaten a spoonful or two more as I'm typing this entry with no problems. Is anyone else having this issue?

I had that same problem when i was a few days out. i noticed that i didn't get the traditional feeling of full, I started burping alot (little tiny burps, not big belches) and I would have pressure in my chest. Now I can feel full. I was told that our tummies are still swollen and kind of numb so we can't really tell just yet. I just started feeling the traditional sense of full a couple days ago, still with the burps too. Slowly eat, make sure you take at least 30 minutes to eat, put your fork/spoon down after every bite and listen to your new body.

I'm 2.5 weeks out and I'm not feeling "full" either, yet. My sign to stop is when I feel it backing up in the back of my throat. Actually, I know that means I've eaten too much but crossing that line is literally a matter of one bite.

Sometimes I have to go spit out the food I have in my mouth ready to swallow if I get that signal. I'm hoping to get better at stopping BEFORE this happens.

If I wait 30 minutes or so that "stuck in the throat" feeling does go away, but I don't think that means I should be eating more. Nutritionists call that "topping off" and it can lead to overeating.

Most of us don't really start feeling "full" until we start solid foods again. Despite being on mushies, they don't really stay in the tummy for long. However, it is very easy to hit that one bite too full spot and be either in pain or sliming!

I wasn't looking for "full" because I am not sure I ever felt that before surgery, or if I did, I had eaten so much I should have rolled away from the table. After surgery, my enough signal is a burp. When I burp while I'm eating, I know to put down the fork and push away the plate. I don't care if I've eaten 1 bite or 10, that burp says "No more!" If I don't stop right then, I'm in for a painful hour or so after the meal.

Most of the long-timers who have hit goal say they don't eat until they are full, they eat until they are satisfied.

Good luck!! You will get there!! :)

I'm still working on this. I am the same as UX, actually exactly the same.

I hear it's normal not to feel full yet. I am still trying to find that balance between full and TOO full. It's trial and error. Nausea can mean you have eaten too much. or you have eaten too fast, or you are not taking small enough bites. I get naseous a lot now especially if I forget to eat. Then it's hard to catch up and get back to "normal".

We will all get this, just take it slow. Everyone says slower is better. I still sometimes scarf my food and then boy oh boy do I regret it.

What size bougie did your doctor use? I'm out 2 years and still can only fit about 1 cup of food, depending on what it is, without feeling like I ate a whole turkey dinner! And I still get the slimys. . . but like the previous posters said, you will probably get that "full" feeling once you start eating solid dense Proteins. At this time, mashed potatoes and such are considered "slider" foods which just slide right on through and don't make you feel full at all. Good luck and keep us posted

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
