Drinking Protein And Basically Eating Three Things

Recommended Posts

I have a question. I will be sleeved in January and my husband was sleeved last August. As with most husbands and wives I am the "watcher". He has done really well, has lost 77 pounds in four months. (They said it falls off of men) My question is, he gets his 80 gm of Protein in a shake every morning. Then his diet consists of the following, cheese, wheat thins and sugar free popsicles and maybe some peanuts, maybe six. If I cook some chicken and a vegetable he will eat a small portion and forgo the wheat thins and cheese but is addicted to the popcicles. He has continued to lose doing this. I was just a little worried about getting what he needs. Hopefully I will not have the same problem. Oh, he also takes his B12, Vitamins and Calcium faithfully.

Im four weeks post op and i currently take in my protiens from cottage cheese, grilled chicken breast, grilled salmon, steak and grilled fish. I choose from a variety of healthy smoothies for Breakfast everyday. I try not to take in too much carbs though and foods that i stay away from are rice, Pasta, bread etc.. at least for the first 4-6 months postop.

I'm good with skimmed milk, low fat yoghurt and mixed berries. Excersising everday, walk/jog for at least five miles does wonders for your health after the sleeve.

Good luck.

I was told our bodies can't absorb more than 25 grams of Protein at one time. Does he have a nutritionist or anyone to help him with any of this? It would seem after 4 months, he should be eating a wider variety and more food than what you describe.

Your hubby's diet doesn't sound that bad to me, except for the part about getting in 80 grams of Protein in one shake. I have also heard that we can only absorb up to 25 g of Protein at one time. However, it looks like he's adding other Proteins in throughout the day and that he is taking his Vitamins.

If you or he are really worried about his intake, you can always ask the doctor to do labs and make sure hubby's nutrition goals are being met. That's the proof as to whether he's eating well enough.

I will just add that our diets after the sleeve look very different to outsiders. My son is always commenting on how little I eat at one time. We had wings the other night and 3 filled me up completely! The waitress even asked if there was a problem with the food.

This is why many of us learn to push food around our plates and cut things up very tiny, to make it look like we've eaten more than we have when we are in social situations.

Yes, your hubby isn't eating a lot of variety, but it looks like he's meeting his protein and Water goals. SF popsicles are liquid and, as long as he's staying hydrated, aren't a problem.

As he gets further out from surgery, he may add in other things, but he may not.

Good luck to him and to you as you start your own journey!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
