When I was 5 days out, I could drink - not sip - about 1/8 of a cup followed in a couple of minutes by another 1/8 to 1/4 cup of liquid. I am 4 weeks out and have problems with not wanting food or liquids. This has been going on for 3 days. When I was at your stage, I wondered if the doctor took any of my stomach out! LOL. It was easier for me to get my Protein in then than it is now.

Within the first 4 weeks, I've gone throuh a few stages and none of them seemed very difficult until now when I'm really feeling full after a couple of bites or taking a long time to get a Protein shake down.

I hope this helps. You will feel full soon enough. Concentrate on getting you Protein and other liquids each day.

hi frumpy, i had the sleeve the other day, Thursday, 12/15/11.

On Friday for my "first meal" from the hospital i rec'd 1 oz. of chicken broth and 1 oz of red jello!!! thats it!!!. i actually had trouble getting it down, ever so slowly, because i knew i shouldn't eat/drink too fast. So i was kind of scared. For dinner, i rec'd the same "food", and didn't even feel like anything then either, but i drank alittle.

What i'm understanding is this early in the game, these first few days or so drinking sip, sip, and sip is the way to go. slow and steady wins the race. I was always told to drink slowly, as well as to eat slowly.

At a sooner than later point we're supposed to get in 64 oz a day in liquids. Being only 2 days post op, i drank around only about 8 oz of H20. hoping to increase that daily.

I'm a week and half post op and I had the same problem of not feeling "Full" when I was on all liquids too. I just followed my Dr's. plan of drinking a bottle of Water (8oz) every 2hrs from 8am-8pm. (Extending the gap to 3hrs the last 3hrs) I'm now on full liquids/soft foods (mashed potatoes, pudding etc.) and I'm still having issues of not feeling full. I actually tried mashed potatoes for the first time tonight and stopped after about 5-6 spoonfuls. I still didn't get the full sensation, but stopped because I became nauseated. I'm assuming I was eating too fast as I have eaten a spoonful or two more as I'm typing this entry. Is anyone else having this issue?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
