clientsra 0 Posted December 17, 2011 Happy to be on this forum! I started researching gastric bypass about 6 months ago. My weight has ballooned to 218 lbs and I am 5' 1', My BMI is 41.1. Having a hard time walking up and down stairs, huffing and puffing, back pain, knee pain and I think I developed asthma along the way. My journey I must say has been quick! I saw Dr. Neff- Kennedy Hospital, Cherry Hill NJ in October, 2011 Was with 5 other people for a general talk. He gave a presentation with pictures of surgery and discussed the lap band, VSG and full gastric bypass. Spoke privately with him for 20 minutes- not sure if I asked the right questions- pretty general info. Had all of my pre-certs done- cardiologist, psychiatrist, gastro, general doctor, and to my surprise a sleep study (turns out I have slight sleep apnea) and nutritionist. Saw Dr. Neff on November 16th and scheduled for December 27th. My insurance Keystone Health Plan East- approved in 2 minutes! Best insurance company!!!! I was leaning towards the lap band- but read there were better results with VSG. Going for pre-tests at Kennedy Hospital in Stratford on December 20th- x-rays and blood work. I have been researching a lot about post-surgery problems, diet after surgery, etc. A little apprehensive about the pain right after surgery- any info on this from anyone would be helpful! I'm ready! url=http://www.weight-loss-center.net/weight-loss-tools.html]Weight Loss Calculator[/url] and Diet Tools at Weight Loss Center
jasleeve 440 Posted December 17, 2011 congrats! im scheduled on the 20th! my best advice is dive head 1st. whatever comes out after surgery is what you will deal with when you cross that bridge! for now, focus on your pre op diet & your hospital stay. as far as gas post op, walk walk walk & take gas x strips. thats the only thing you will be able to control. dont forget to sip lol

ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted December 18, 2011 hi clientra, my head is spinning from the start of your whirlwind journey to your quick sleeve date. congrats on getting everything done so quickly, and having WLS by the end of the year - out w/the old....starting the new year great. As far as your "huffing and puffing", problems with knees, back etc. - think we've all been there and done that. This shall pass, sooner than later I'm working on it too. I just had my sleeve 2 days ago 12/15/11 - as far as the pain after WLS, i've heard so many different responses. In my case, well, i'm still hurting a bit at my incision on my right side. but its understandable i think. some people write saying they had a little more pain, BUT others say they hardly hurt at all, went back to work quickly. Then they ran the NYC marathon I One thing thats the same is that we're all different Know you are anxious for 12/27/11 you'll do great. Talk at ya later kathy DOS 12/15/
clientsra 0 Posted December 31, 2011 HAD MY SLEEVE- 12-27- 3 DAYS POST-OP- The surgery was at 1:30pm on tuesday- I remember being wheeled into the operating room- it was cold- the nurse introduced me to the staff...like was I supposed to remember their names...was there a quiz later???? Well, after that I was out like a light remember waking up as they were moving me from recovery to my room. Lots of chest pains- thought I was having a heart attack- they gave me nitro pills under my tongue and dilauden for pain. Really bad the 1st three days- heavy acid and pain, everywhere- couldn't stay in the bed- slept in the chair for 2 nights. got more x-rays- too swollen liquid not going down- xray doctor concerned. my doctor- not. finally this morning I got steroids for the swelling- by 2pm felt like a new person. Why couldn't I have gotten them yesterday? went home at 5pm with dilauden, vicodin, zocor, lavaxor?- daily blood thinner injection. and 2 things for acid reflux. some nurses were great- others were ok- some were downright idiots- I thought there were too many nurses with degrees- how they found these few morons I don't know- i.e. bariatric floor- she gives me a straw and tells me to take big gulps so the pressure of the Water will flow through- are you kidding me???? or one tells me to lie flat on my stomach to push out the gas (incisions and all!). and fyi I didn't ask for anything...stayed very low key. So far- best day I have had. Very supportive family- came home to crystal light, broth and diet Jello all lined up for me and all of my medicines in a daily pill box. After going through this I don't know if I would recommend it yet- will keep u updated/
