Weird thing happened

Recommended Posts

I got my band yesterday. The doctor got the band on, and while she was finishing up, the band BROKE! She had to get a new one and redo the entire surgery. So, a two hour surgery turned into a four hour surgery.

I got my band and came home today, but was wondering if anyone has heard of this happening?

thanks

I've never heard of this happening. I wonder what kind of shape your stomach covering is in since they had to re-stitch. I would be very careful and follow your doctor's liquid diet to a tee, you don't want the band to slip because it didn't have a chance to heal because of swelling.

Hope ya heal quick and welcome to bandland!

Banded and home in the same day? While not as invasive as a RNY Bypass, you should have still remained in the hopsital overnight so that they could evaluate you by flouoscopy 24 hrs later. If you don't mind me asking, who is your doctor and where did you have the surgery performed?

Mommy0105 - My lap band doctor does band surgery as day surgery, no overnight, and no flouro evaluation, it's quite common.

My surgeon also performs banding generally as an outpatient operation. I did do a fluro check just before I left to go home.

Never heard of it, but honestly - I've never heard of a LB surgery taking 2 hours either. *shrug*

Wow,, it broke you say? Did you get any more information other than "it broke?" And 2 hours is a little extreme, in my understanding of the band.

Anyway, welcome to the Banded Gentry

I suppose anything is possibe, considering there are so many doctors/hospitals with there own set of guidelines. Personally though, I wouldn't feel safe having major surgery (Any type of abdominal surgery is considered such) only to be sent home hours later. Maybe I am being over precautious, but better over than under in my opinion.

I may have misunderstood. I read that the "normal" surgery/procedure should have taken two hours, not that it was two hours until she was discharged. General guidelines are 45 - 75 minutes for the actual procedure, last I read. There are always exceptions.

I had my lapband surgery on 7/18. I'm doing fine, but I thought it would be much more difficult to drink (still on liquid diet) I can drink just about as much as I could before surgery. Is this normal?

peharper - many people won't feel any restriction until their fills, and often it takes more than one or two. Resuming normal quantities is not out of the ordinary, especially with liquids that go right through any restriction you might have.

I am being banded on the 9th and pretty much only plan on being in the hospital for 3-4 hours. Doc said an hour for surgery, couple hour recovery, if I can drink and am not in a lot of pain, I can go home. I live 10 min from the hospital, so my own bed is more comfy. My insurance actually only would approve it for outpatient which is 23 hours there or less. So, I could spend the night if I have issues, but obviously were not planning on any..

Wheetsin - THANKS! I was beginning to think there was something wrong. I go back to Hurley Clinic on the 1st of August to get the staples removed. I hope they schedule a fill soon after, because I don't want to start gaining back the weight I lost while on the liquid diet.< /p>

My surgery is also outpatient. My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and and I am supposed to be home that afternoon. (as long as everything goes according to plan) That is the way my doctor and his three partners have always done it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
