Just A Word Of Caution

Recommended Posts

I have learned a lot from this forum. Thank you to everyone. Thought I would pass along my experience.

I was sleeved 12/5. First week was bad but not totally unbearable. Mostly because my husband stayed home with me and "watched" me and made sure I was eating, etc.

I had read about plenty of people on this board and in articles who went back to work after one week. I decided I would try working from home. I was eating on the regular schedule but not drinking enough (I am on full liquids).

Wednesday, after working 2.5 days at home I had my first post op appointment and found out not only did I have a fever, I was severely dehydrated. The staff at the doctors office gave me an i.v. but later decided to send me to the hospital. So I got to spend another day in the hopsital and was told NO WORK. Which is very hard for me.

So my advice is, when the doctors tell you to plan a certain time off, listen!!! Also, drink your Water. Today has been one of my hardest days post op because I am on my own again and the Doctor's staff gave me a strict drink at this time for 1.5 hours, eat at this time for 1/2 hour.

I know it will get better. I know that from everyone who has posted. This too shall pass. But nothing like feeling like an idiot when I realized and had to confess that I probably wasn't even get 36 ounces of water in me.

So thanks for listening and thanks for all the advice from this board!

My surgeon impressed that on me over everything else, "Make sure you drink all your liquids"... said he's never lost anyone from not getting in all their Protein.< /p>

I have no idea how people have managed to go back to work after a week. It's been over two weeks for me and I still need a nap every afternoon.

Thank you so much for sharing that. I can see how easy it is to not drink when you are busy with life. This is the time to focus on you. I could so easily do the same thing after I am sleeved, now I am more aware of that.

thanks again!!

I've learned so much from the family on this forum. YES Water is so crutial during your first couple of weeks and take off as much time as you possible can. You need every bit of time to recoup as well as adjust to your new lifestyle and IT AIN'T THAT EASY. Old no drinking wait til later eating habits stay in your mind but you gotta start a clean slate and follow the guidelines again for the first couple of weeks. By the end of one month, you should have a since of your body and your new life style. I just new I wasn't going to make it but the forum kept me going. Thank You ALL!!

Congratulations to you and your new body. Take good care of it!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
