Eating Out Guide

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys

Is there a place on the board for selecting healthy, sleeve friendly meals when eating out at popular restaurants? If there isn't could anyone post up their experiences at places that are well known, what they ordered and how it worked with the sleeve? Places like Chili's, Friday's, Red Lobster, Subway, Panera, Au bon pan, you know the ones easily accesisble no matter where you live.

oopss i just posted something similar here now and I just saw this. I think there is a lot of iPhone/ smart phones apps where you can see the calories on each meal before ordering in Chili's or other restaurants. My favorite apps are "fast food calories" ,"Dotti's Food Score"

As I posted on Liliana's post, I pretty much stay with Soups having them pureed early on. Salads also work for me and it is always nice having a to-go for later. Pretty much all those places have their nutritional stuff posted online. As a former cook, though, know that what is posted and how it is actually prepared are two different things. Usually always more butter or oil. Portion sizes are also larger in real life.

I think, through this process, you may find going out to dinner occurs less often as you have been forced to prepare more meals and do meal planning. At least, this has been true for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
