Surgery Date Scheduled!

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited, nervous, scared, anxious, and elated....I have a surgery date scheduled for December 28. I only have a 3 day liquid diet scheduled which I find odd that it isn't longer. However, I will take it. If anyone has any advise for the hospital and the first few days/weeks after I would greatly appreciate it........a new year, and a new me. Can't wait.

Congratulations on getting a date and so quickly! I don't go until January so I don't have any advice but I'm rooting for you!

Thanks.....and good luck to you as well. The closer it gets, the more nervous I get. My 7 year old is so excited because I will finally stop drinking soda. Just hearing him say that makes me know that I am doing the right thing to help give me tools that I need to get healthy for myself and for my kids......keep me updated with how you are doing.

Melissa, looks like we are having our surgery on the same day. I'l have mine at the Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas on the 28th. My doctor has me on a 2 week pre-op diet, so I have 11 days to go. Good luck!

Good luck to you as well. Mine is scheduled at Presbyterian Plano with Dr. Hamn. I don't start my pre-op diet until Christmas Day.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
