2 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

First off i just wanna say thank you to everyone that has wished me good luck.. and to all those that are about to get your sleeves done to for expressing your nervousness.. it really helped to know that i wasnt the only one goin thru this..

Im 2 day post op.. and actually im still in some conciderable pain.. the gas they pumped into me to make sure i wasn't leaking just wont seem to come out.. i can't seem to burp or have it come out the other end.. lol.. you know what i mean.. and im doing everything that i can.. i get up and walk for at least 10 min, im doing my breathing and getting in fluids.. the gas seems to be my only problem.

  • thankfully i didnt have to have a drainage tube that was nice.. but i had to get stuck about 10 times cuz they couldn't get an iv started then when they did it exploded and my arm swelled a lot.. lol go figure. i guess it wasn't as bad as it could have been but they found that there was something wrong with my esophogus so they repaired it while they were doing the vsg.. so i have a little extra pain that i wasn't ready for..

I guess overall im doin ok my pain is getting a little less each day but until i can get this air moving im not sure when i will be pain free.. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hi, I was sleeved on Monday 12/12 as well! came home yesterday afternoon. Like you, I was quite nervous beforehand, but overall, all went well. My biggest problem so far has been the gas too. I am finding that sitting up in a chair and walking a bit is helping. It is getting easier with time. I almost fell asleep sitting up when I first tried yesterday morning, but am finally able to even sit up in bed and play on the iPad for a bit now at 4 am on day 3 po.

I definitely hear things gurgling more when I sit up and move around a bit. Oh, and when I got home yesterday, after being unhooked from all of the iv's etc, I found that sleeping on my side with the support of a bunch of pillows helped a lot too!

The biggest thing I was unprepared for was how sleepy I would be for so long afterwards!

Good luck,

thank you everyone for your good wishes...

Kelly congrats to you as well.. i completely understand the gas.. its the only thing making my life miserable right now.. and i sleep all day too which i think is why i am not getting in enough fluids.. i think im starting to get dehydrated..

I wish i could sleep on my side i think that would help a lot but that is just tooo painful right now to even try. Thankfully i have been able to start moving some of the gas out.. lol.. but it seems every time i eat or drink anything i get that burning gassy sensation in my chest.... and i walk everytime i get up for at least 10 min.. it just doesn't seem to be helping.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
