Misstxdiva 73 Posted December 14, 2011 I feel so defeated and like I can't take it anymore. Aside from it being a horrible week I get word from the doctor about my pre-op lab results and I just feel like I can't win for losing. Maybe it's not that serious but when your down and nothing seems to go right all you can do is just sob . Left work early because my chest felt like someone was sitting on my chest and it was tight. THEN I get a call from the doctor's office that my Vitamin D is low and I'm slightly diabetic but no medication needed yet. Happy Hump Day to me!!!! I guess on the bright side maybe the diabetes thing will create a sense of urgency when they submit my file to my new insurance company next month for approval right? *sigh* Thank you for listening to my rant everyone. I hope things get better and I get approved for my surgery next month
Sassygirl06 962 Posted December 14, 2011 Just breathe.......try to relax, and know that you will get through this, and be stronger for it. this too shall pass, and you will get your surgery, and it will be a new start to a better life. ((hugs))
MeMeMEEE 206 Posted December 14, 2011 I was also Vitamin D deficient and asked if that would affect my surgery date and was told no.
DebiC 181 Posted December 15, 2011 "Slightly diabetic" should count in your favor as far as insurance is concerned. And as far as a Vitamin D deficiency-in the US We mostly get our Vitamin D from the sun (through our skin) and from fortified foods. Milk, eggs, fish. It basically effects our bones. You should actually be glad you found out sooner rather than later!! So you can protect your bones. Doctors have a tendency not to explain these things to us very well. Did he suggest you take a Vitamin D supplement? That might be all that is needed to rectify the situation. Hang in there-I know all the pre-stuff can make you crazy once you've decided on the surgery-but it'll be worth it. Keep us informed of your progress. Good Luck. Lissa 2,631 Posted December 15, 2011 I've heard that being Vitamin D deficient can also add to depression. Did your doc suggest a supplement? It will get better! (((hugs)))

Ms. VSG4health 0 Posted December 15, 2011 I was told the same thing before surgery. The doctor put me on 50,000 units of Vitamin D once a week for 8 weeks. They told the diabetes should be resolve after having the surgery. I am three weeks out and glucose levels have dropped. The surgery has improved that as well as my blood pressure levels. Hope this gives you some peace of mind. I pray everything works out with your approval.
his2my2our4 120 Posted December 15, 2011 Raising my hand...I was also a vit d defciant gal prior to surgery. The good news is, with a supplement and maybe even a little sunshine you will be ok. It didn't prevent me from having the sleeve done and all is well. Breathe in and breathe out....crossing my fingers (and toes, and eyes and...) for approval! former_vbg 198 Posted December 15, 2011 Those test results are really not that bad. By the title of this post, I thought you were going to say that you learned you weren't a candidate for surgery. I don't remember the % of Americans, but they say a HIGH number of people are Vit D defficient. I was as well, but I did NOT want to take pills, so they had a shot which was 600,000 units. I had my bloodwork done 3 mths after surgery and it came up from defficient to low side of normal and bloodwork again just a month ago and now it is 37 and that is on the high side of normal. The shot cost me $45, but it was WELL worth it not to have to take pills everyday. I have a serious gag reflex with pills. Even my PPI is a disolvable tablet. Seriously, this stuff is not bad and like others have said, having diabetes show up is a good thing for ins. approval.
Pookeyism 1,143 Posted December 15, 2011 Vitamin D is produced with exposure to the sun, but is a fat soluable Vitamin and the Vit D produced by the sun is not readily absorbed. A diet consistent in a fat that makes vit d work well is important also...try 4 oz of whole milk, or 8 oz of 1% milk. Vitamin D is important in many genes reproducing correctly, neuromuscular function and development and combating imflammation. Vit. D and Diabetes is often hand-in-hand, and often insufficient sleep is included. Vit. D is a major concern or should be before surgery because the healing process is affected as a whole. Please don't look at this as something that may/may not affect your surgery. Address this now with an endocrinologist and extablish a relationship with a doctor that is a diabeties specialist. Get your A1C tested and your blood glucose level at least 4x a day. These are not fat diseases (well yea but) these are diseases you have now. They might resolve and they might not. I was diagnosed in 2007 and looking back at how I felt and problems healing from sports injuries and brusing and eyesight problems and such I was probably diabetic for at least 5 years. The difference in me now is night and day. I dropped 25 lbs just controling my BG levels. That left me very heavy still, but I was back in to my exercises more, back in to good moods, less stomach pain. I heal better, etc. I will be off my medications as of the morning of my surgery and depending on my readings my doctor thinks I may not need them again. In the meantime I maintain because it feels so much better when my levels are under control. Whew! Off my soapbox. I am just a very strong advocate for diabeties maintenance and education. Good luck with your approval (I have Humana and have a total exclusion to WLS and WLT so I had to pay out of pocket).
Misstxdiva 73 Posted December 15, 2011 Thanks everyone for the advice. I think the fact that I wasn't feeling good tO begin with is what made me so emotional. I know it's not the end of the world. It just sucks that I'm 25 and having to deal with that stuff. I have to take pills for the Vitamin d hoping it isn't going to cost me a kidney for the meds and thankfully not on meds for the diabetes. Hoping next month brings good news with an approval for surgery. Ready to get my life back!

Misstxdiva 73 Posted December 16, 2011 As far as I know, no medications for now so no. I should ask though, I noticed I was shaking earlier not sure it that had to do with my blood sugar.
