Approved For Gastric Sleeve Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Good Morning All,

I have been reading everyone's posts and getting some really good information from you all. I love that there is a place where people understand my decision, and don't judge me. Yes, some of my family have told me that the sleeve wasn't a good idea, but like most of you all...i'm doing it for ME and MY CHILDREN, no one else. I have a 5 year old daughter (will be 6 in feb) and a 18 month old little boy. Both my 2 sisters and father have diabetes and high blood pressure. Currently, I just have high blood pressure, but with my family history, diabetes is on its way. I have been overweight for a most of my life. I am 26 years old, and my BMI is 41. I started my journey in October and decided to go with the sleeve. I have heard stories about the lap band, and my mother-in-law had the bypass years ago. I chose the sleeve because of the benefits and the complications seem to be minimal compared to the bypass.

I am excited about my new life ahead of me! I spoke with my rep from the surgeons office, and she told me that my insurance approved me for the surgery, so its really happening!!! Everything is happening so quickly. I'm excited, and nervous at the same time. Reading everyone's posts daily gave me the encouragement I needed to make this decision. I want to personally thank EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU who took time out to talk about your experience. I'm sure a lot of us appreciate your stories :).

***And can someone please help me with the ticker. I haven't figured out how to install it to my profile yet.***** aureola.gif

Congrats!!!! i'm in the same boat your in (family wise). I'm doing this for my daughter and myself! no one else!! I have cholesterol right now and my family has that, high bp, diabetes and i'm sure on my way to that, too. that's why i'm doing this!

My papers were sent to the insurance on Friday so i'm hoping to hear a response soon. my BMI is right at 40 so i'm afraid the insurance will make me jump through more hoops because of it.

What insurance do you have? How long did it take you to hear back from them?

again, Congrats!!!! I'm soooo happy for you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
