Traveling To Mexico Alone For Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm considering having my sleeve done in Mexico. Have many of you traveled with your spouses or did you make the trip alone? I would like the company and reassurance but I also don't want him to sit in a hotel room all day while I sleep. What was your experience?

There was alot of people who went by themselves and had the suport of the other patients at the clinic. When I went, I started a forum post with the date I was going and asked people who were going to be there the same time. I got several responses and knew some people before I arrived. I also made new friends while I was there and we exchanged emails.

I felt great and didn't sleep during the day at all so my dad and my 19 year old daughter who went weren't bored at all. They even walked around the area of the hospital and down to the ocean which was just a few blocks away. They had a great time and I was so glad they went. But if you go alone, you will be fine also. You will meet others having surgery.

My husband went with me and stayed in the hospital with me. They had a place for him to sleep in my room also. I really appreciated the moral support of him being there.

I brought a DVD player and some movie DVD's so he could watch movies if I was sleeping. The time went fast. He is going in for his surgery Jan 26 and I will be with him every step of the way also. It just was nice that he was there and since he was in my room all the time except when he went to eat he was able to notify the nurses and Dr's when I had problems.

That being said there was several women and men there without their spouses and did fine.

I went alone but never felt alone. The staff was wonderful and I had a coordinator that was on site. Good luck on your surgery

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
