SippNSotaGirl 1 Posted December 12, 2011 Hi everyone! I have my LapBand revision to sleeve next Tuesday. I'm starting my pre-surgery diet tomorrow. I'm starting to get more excited and nervous. Dr. Aceves will be my surgeon. For those of you who had him, can you tell me about cellular service at the hospital? I understand the hospital is very close to the border. Do you think I'll be roaming or charged for international usage if I use my cell phone there? Only one person knows I'm going to have the surgery, and I'm going alone. I don't want people getting worried if I don't answer my phone for an entire week. (I live alone, too, so my family checks on me every so often to make sure I'm okay.) Any thoughts? Closely related, I think the nurses will call someone when surgery is over to let my family know I'm okay. Is that correct? If so, I'll have them call my sister. She's the one person who knows I'm having the surgery. She's a nurse, too, and she's had the surgery, so she's been helping me about what to expect. Most of my questions now are specific to having surgery in Mexico and by Dr. Aceves. Thanks in advance!!
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted December 12, 2011 My phone did not work in the hospital. Some people's phone's do work though. I think that may have changed now because I hear of more and more people saying they had no problems with their phones. Do you have Verizon? I've heard they have the best service. Be sure you add Mexico to your package so you won't be charged extra charges. You should call your cell company and tell them where you'll be to find out exactly what you'll be charged if you call or receive calls.
SouthernSleever 228 Posted December 12, 2011 My phone worked but I think I was charged extra. See about getting skype if you are bringing a lap top. If you give the nurses a number to call I just know that they would. They are so kind and sweet and they will do ANYTHING to help you out.
sarsar 824 Posted December 13, 2011 I had Verizon and called bf I left to see if I would be covered. They told me I would but it would cost extra to talk and text. Turns out when I got home my bill wasn't any higher. I assume I was able to get connected to a tower right outside of Mexico.
