How I Ended Up With The Gastric Sleeve Surgery :)

Recommended Posts

I am not going to write a book about my life or anything, but I would love to share a short story on how I ended up with the sleeve. I have been overweight my whole life and battled countless diets along the way that always in the end for the worse. I started working at a bank a year ago and they have excellent benifits and pay for 90% of lap band and sleeve surgury. My husband and I have been trying for years to have a child and I thought what a great way for me to get healthy and possibly help me have a baby. So as of October 10th this year I had the surgury and my weight was 286 at my highest. Currently I am at 250. I was worried I was losing weight too slowly but my Dr. said I am right on schedule and doing well, although I could use some more excerise. I have struggles of not wanting to eat at times but most of the time I get my fill in just a few bites of food. I stay completly away from all bread and Pasta now since I learned the hard way and became ill. It is a huge learning curve but I feel very blessed to have had this surgury and pray that soon I can be an expecting mommy. smile.png So thats my story!

Congratulations on such an exciting journey! I am also craving a child, and am having the surgery in hopes of gaining fertility. You are doing great!!! Everyone loses at a different pace. I started out at almost exactly the same starting weight as you (286 lbs for me), and I can't wait to be back down to 250!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
