I Am Starting To Regret My Vsg......

Recommended Posts

YOu no in the beginning, I was the most optimistic person on the face of the earth regarding this surgery. I felt confident and sure that I would not have any issues. I believed that I would have this surgery and feel like the same person. I couldn't be more wrong. In fact I am starting to feel horrible. I no I am not getting in enough Protein and I am getting weaker by the day.

I am having this consistent pain in the left upper quadrant of my abdomen that will not go away. I got so worried about it that I went and had a CT scan done in the ER the other day. I was happy to get a clear report and there was no infection, abscess, obstruction or any apparent issues. I was given a clean bill of health. But, then I was mad because I don;t no why I feel this pain. There is nothing worst then a doctor telling u "we can't find anything" but u are still having symptoms. It makes me scared to think that this pain will never go away and I will never feel normal again. My surgeon tends to think its normal and could be my intestines or stomach shifting and adjusting. Well i don't think so I feel this pain 24/7. It does not go away

Wow...I never thought I would be saying "Why did I do this to myself"

Now I am gonna go to my pcp Monday and do a follow up. I really don't no what type of test could be done to detect my pain. I guess I have the GI series left to do. Maybe I have a stricture or tight stitch. I don't no a CT scan will pretty much show everything and it showed nothing. The thought of being one of those people who has unexplained pain from here out is depressing. I don't want to be that person.

I am starting to have major regrets.

I can't say that I am having complications because as of now nothing is showing that there are any. All I can say is I fee like I made a mistake and I feel horrible.

Have you contacted Dr Aceves? I've read this same problem before a few times and it ends up being trapped gas usually. Is the pain constant? When you breath in and out? Anything you do gives relief? <hugs:>

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. Praying that they'll discover what's wrong and that you'll be on the path to healing well real soon.

Girl...I have contacted him several times. He says its normal and that my intestines is probably shifting or stomach adjusting. Nothing relieves the pain...nothing. It's there all the time. The only relief I felt was when they gave me a shot of IV 1mg Dilaudid when I was in the ER Friday. Eventually that wore off now its back to the pain. I dont no I guess ill do some GI test next. UGGHHHHH.....

I hate that you're having buyer's remorse, but I promise you it does get better. It's still early in the game, I had some soreness in my tummy up until about a week ago and Im at 6 weeks. What you're describing does sound like gas, and of course a CT scan won't detect that, but I urge you to give it some time. The first 4 weeks are definitely the hardest, it begins to get so much easier once you and your sleeve are in tune with each other.

(((hugs))) I have lived with so much pain. I wish you relief, and soon!

Get a full panel of bloodwork through your surgeon. Do not rely on the ER! Compare all levels of EVERYTHING against at least two panels prior to surgery. Get a white blood count reading. CT scans are not enough, in my opinion. CT scans have missed fibrous inclusions the size of softballs...medical istruments - swallowed toys - even a stick that was jammed into a liver during a hiking accident - pardon my language but WTF! lol

Now - take those panels and get online and understand any serious differences you see. Especially white blood counts.

Do you experience shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, pain in your arm, neck, or jaw? You are not out of the wood for a heart attack...I don't want to worry you but generally consistent pain is a sign of something wrong - even inflammation is nothing to ignore, it is a serious complication that can be a sign of an autoimmune condition.

Not a doctor - do not play one on TV....

Thxs Pookeisym! My blood work is perfect just like prior to surgery. No abnormal WBC levels. I don't have any other symptoms ie;;nausea, dizzines, vomitting, breathing, diffculty swallowing nothing. I am gonna follow up with a GI doc this week. I was sucking on a mint and swallowed it by accident....I just can't see that being the problem. It should have dissolved by now...I just hope they find something (anything and fix it).

Yes mame...Ive tried everything and nothing is resolving this pain in the side.....discourage at this point. But, I am a fighter so I will keep pushing until this issue is resolved. I don't back down so my doc will have no choice but to do every test known to man on me until we figure out whats going on.

I'm thinking the pain could be coming from your spleen. I say this because back in 2008 I had a splenic infarction ( no blood flow to the spleen) I had really bad pain on my upper left side for almost a year, it also causes left shoulder pain as well. Just a thought that your spleen maybe super upset from the surgery & causing pain. Ask your doctor or GP about it. Hope you feel better soon!

Iam a OR nurse and no you are not having a heart attack, if you were you would be dead by now. I really believe it is gas and yes it can be terribly painful. All you can really do if that is it is to walk and take pain meds. If over the counter is not working ask your doc for some..so sorry this is happening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
