Capt Derel's Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey

Recommended Posts

My doc and I talked about the actigal medicine, but he says it's 90% ineffective and it's expensive. Rather than flushing my money, I agreed to have it taken out. Now, that 90% ineffective rate may be in people who already have symptoms. I don't know for sure.

Just reading about the gallbladder on here. I had mine removed a little over a year ago. I was having terrible pain even if I didn't eat anything. Went to er and was given morphine and set up ro have surgery . Never made it ro the scheduled appointment because went back ro emergency room and was scheduled for. Regency gallbladder removal. I have never been happier.

New me, new you... blessings

I went purchase the stuff just awhile ago. I will give it a shot and see what happens sunday. If this works somewhat I will try 4 more times then I will get another ultrasound done. I just hope I can pass most of them. If not I will go under the knife.

Captain, I asked my doctor about this "cleanse" today, because I'm really chicken about having any more surgery. He claimed it's hogwash. Please let me know your results so I know whether I want to try it or not. :)

Thats what many others said also. Theres also some sort of machine that breaks up the stones in order to help pass them and my doc didnt even want to hear that. All I can do is give it a shot.

I'll have an ultrasound in the next couple of days to see how bad my gallbladder is compromised. I'll post what the results are if I can. If it's too bad, I'll be going straight to the OR. :/

What was the first test that diagnosed your gallbladder as being bad?

Is it bloodwork?

Opps.....hit sent too early.

....wonky immune system surgeon didnt feel comfortable removing it during my Sleeve & hiatal hernia repair. I'm on Ursidol but I still need to have my gallbladder out because if it turns toxic on me i'm pretty much out of luck. Body would be in deep trouble recovering from that. :(

Schedule set for Nov 9 or earlier if i even have one mild attack.

Just a thought about flushing out the stones... When I had my gallbladder removed last year I had a pretty cool surgeon who brought me a picture of it and he put a quarter next to one of the stones for size comparison and they were the same size. Not real sure I'd want to "flush" 10 of those out of my body

Just wanted to add my experience with this to the conversation. About eight years ago I started having gallbladder attacks and it was confirmed that my gallbladder was full of stones. I really didn't want to have to have it removed, so I discovered an apple cider fast followed by lemon juice and olive oil flush and gave it my best shot. The flush didn't alleviate the gallbladder attacks and so I had to have surgery anyway (best decision I could have made, as I made a great recovery with no ill effects).

As an icky side note, I subsequently read that the "stones" that appear to be "flushed" after the fast and flush regimen are actually globules of olive oil which are coagulated (like soap) through the action of all that stomach acid on the oil in your otherwise-empty stomach. Then the olive oil "stones" make their way right on through your system and, if you're looking, that's what you see.

Capt Derel - you're looking great, congrats! Wishing you all the best with the gallbladder issue :)

The funny thing about me is that I am my own doctor it seems. I diagnose myself before my doctor. Thank god for the internet and my deciphering capabilities. The very first time I felt the pain I was done for a whole day. Had to lay down and suffer. I thought I had strained my abdomen 3 months after surgery. I let that one slide because I didnt have a clue what happened. The next one was months later offshore where I ate a centrim Vitamin and an Iron pill. That triggered it 15 minutes afterwards. That put me out for 15hrs. Then that week I had 2 more attacks but mild ones. Gas x seems to help oddly along with an advil. Those 3 attacks made me schedule an appt to see my doc so he could schedule me an ultrasound. I just had an attack again monday. That was from a sausage out of a sausage biscuit. I felt the onset 10 minutes afterwards.

I try and be very thorough with my symptoms and duplicate it just to verify. Even though it causes me pain lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
